The starter kit at mushbox sounds like it has everything! it has an incubator with heater, a fruiting, grow chamber with hepa type filter, verm. and 12 pre sterilated jars. anyone know if it's good?

IMO The most useful tool to mushroom cultivation is a pressure cooker.

I'd stick with sponsors, and in my honest opinion that kit from Mushbox is WAY overpriced. Check around, there are better deals out there....

I was looking into a mycodome, now I'm glad I went on my own adn did it. I've spent like 100 total so far, and I doubt I'll have to spend anymore. And I can grow about 10x as much in my home made incubator than if I went with a mycodome for 200+

Save your money to buy a pressure cooker. Get some jars from granny's house. Go to a fedex drop off box and get some free tyvek envelopes. Buy a bag of WBS. Find a source and pick up a free load of horse shit. Get some cheap clear plastic tubs from a department store. Send two bucks to the FSRC for a print.
If you find a way to get any better value for your doller. LET ME KNOW.

just to back up mycodome . com a bit... you can always get your stuff at a store and do it yourself but thats why they up the price.. they have done ALL the work involved and put it in 1 easy package for you. They also guarantee ALL of there products so if something breaks or goes wrong you get a full replacement. Try going into walmart or whatever and explain why you want a new air pump because your mushrooms system broke down.lol.
Anyway yea.. you can always do it yourself but hey if you want a guarantee and don't want to wasted time with trial and error then its pretty reasonable to pay a bit extra for a system that WILL work guaranteed. Don't you think?

Don't those grow kits stop flushing after a couple of flushes? Basically, your SOL and have to buy a new one to get more. If you went to the store and bought all of the shit from one of the tek's here, you not only would save money (LOTS), but you would have all the equipment forever, instead of having to keep buying it over and over again. It's really not that hard.....

Home Depot and walmart are very good for growing supplies. They are cheap and WILL exchange or return most anything. Even when you flood a humidifier and the fan stops working and you return the thing covered with silicone rubber and duct tape.
Save your receipts.

Regarding the mycodome and many other kits.. all you need is refills.. such as more soil, jars, straw, I know those sites that sell the kits also have refill packs for cheep.
And again you most likely WILL save some money on buying it yourself but think about all the time and effort involved - and trial and error, unless you know exactly what your doing its easy to mess it up.
I am sure that alot of people just want it all in a simple package, with a guarantee.
you dont have to buy the entire kit again , just some refill supplies.

shroomery vs. shroomtalk
LMAO
If I may put my .02 in.... Mushbox really helped me out at the begining.. Everything is built, ready to go, and if something goes wrong they will replace it. They are extremely PRICEY, but you do get a guarantee and they have excellent customer service. I am an idiot when it comes to building things, so thats why they helped me out. Though, they do describe all their equipment as products from God himself... but when you get it, you see its really not that difficult to build yourself. If price is not a problem, mushbox is cool
Shroomery is by a long shot a better place for information and the vendors have excellent service, no complaints here at all, also a lot more peeps here. Everything you need could be purchased by shroomery vendors.
If you want to get really into mycology, shroomery is the place to be. Shroomtalk is like elementary school and shroomery is like college...
so there you go

its called convienence, thats what you pay for, ever wonder why things cost so much at a 711 when you can get the same thing at walmart for 2-3$ less?
We all know that you can make your setups for much cheaper then the kits offered. The sponsors are not "ripping you off", they're charging a price for a product they build for you. I dont know the specifics behind these guys inventory, but, when producing a product you sure as hell dont keep zero inventory and then just build to order. I wouldnt be surprised if these guys buy a ton of containers and such to prebuild a bunch of kits. They keep price sort of high to help cover overhead in case of poor sales, this is all basic economics, price skimming is what its called. Businesses have been doing this for years, there's always some place you can find a cheaper product if you know where to look. All in all these guys aren't doing anything shady, their prices are fair (especially with the guarantee) considering that this is a.) a niche market and b.) these products are designed to be bought ONCE. Once someone buys a myco kit they're not expected to come back and buy three more, the businesses can hope that the customer spreads words and brings in new customers, but they shouldnt expect customers to be coming back and purchasing the equipment over and over again.
Kits are great for those with no time, no desire to do any real work, or people who just want to grow out a few grams now and then for some fun.

well said guys.. thanks for backing up the kits a bit.
Coda you got it nailed
and tony.. yea shroomtalk is alot less than shroomery FOR SURE. How do you think shroomtalk started? From the overwhelming influence of the Shroomery. I would say 60% of the info from shroomtalk actually links directly to shroomery info.
It just different people, different attitude, still fun and good info though.
