i used a program called "download manager" it wasnt free, but i got it working through a few various websites...

Flac is lossless, higest quality, but YOU probably dont want to deal with it
Ogg Vorbis is this new kinda format, kinda like mp3, but smaller files
64kbps mp3 = crap, low quality mp3, below most stuff you would record around the house with a tape recorder and a sterio
VBR Mp3 is variable bit rate mp3 - this is what you want...  it vary's the sample rate (quality) as needed to keep the best mp3 quality while saving space...

if you use firefox, the browser, you can get "down them all" which will download all files on a page (you select the file filter, like only pics, movies, etc) but doesnt manage them all that great.

on "down them all" just right click on the page, go to "down them all" and a box will pop up, and you select the destination, and the file type with check boxes, uncheck all the box's and add vbr.mp3 to the custom one under the check boxes. then all the vbr one's should be checked...

Once you gain a collection of a dozen or more FLAC shows, the space it takes up really starts to become a burden.

Hey Ripple,

you may find this article interesting when it comes to explaining torrents.

i really don't think ripple should worry with flacs, unless he's got a really amazing soundsystem hooked up to his computer or an infinite amount of space and bandwidth.

out of the formats archive offers, i'd say ogg is the best, because it is open-source. vbr mp3 is the most common - while pretty much any new mp3 program will have support for ogg, you might need some plugins for older programs - mp3 will play in everything.

you can also stream the show, and usually there is at least one "download entire show" link (although those are often only flac). otherwise check out the plugin phych was talking about, and from there you can pick and choose what songs/quality you want

it might even help if I told you the article....

as for what sound quality for ripple? I'd say stick with mp3s all the way, and look into flac if you're making a CD out of the music you download, to listen on a good stereo.

I use GetRight, and it works pretty well. It's extremely customizable and very powerful. Too many options for newbs, just the right # for power users.
