Q's about my martha type set up
    #5251695 - 02/01/06 03:55 PM (18 years, 13 hours ago)

I'm currently in the process of constructing a martha. Right now I already have a martha-type closet that i was considering using, but it has think canvas covering and not plastic. I also have a wick type coolmist. I was wandering if i put the coolmist and an ultrasonic inside this style closet if the humidity would stay high enough for mushroom growth.

Thanks,.

Easy fix to your canvas covering dilema, just go to the hardware store and get some plastic or tarp and construct your own cover. No problem at all. Both a coolmist and an ultrasonic will probably be much too much humidity for casings, but that's just something you'll have to test and figure out for yourself. No doubt they'll both need to be on a timer though.

probably... but thats taking out the massive FAE boost you get with a martha, which is one of the greatest things about a martha. There's lots and lots of teks for modding marthas and coolmists, just gotta look.

placing your coolmist inside your chamber will increase humidity but will NOT provide fresh air exchange which is ESSENTIAL for good pinsets and proper mushroom development. I'd can the ultrasonic (i use one but it seems to make it too wet in there, but i dont have a timer that works in incraments of less than one hour - i think i'm gonna swap it out with another cool mist)

What i recommend is using two cool mists running 24/7 which will give you TONS of fresh air and lots of humidity. Look around this site for ways of mod-ing your humidifier so it pushes the wet air through pipes or tubes into your martha style closet unit.

you said you had a canvas one right? i'd return that if you havent done anything to it and buy one thats plastic. or get any sort of plastic covered mini-greenhouse as they are much cheaper than buying a martha stewart brand closet and putting your own shelves in it.

good luck you will love the results that a properly set up fruiting chamber with this much space and fresh air will produce.

I was thinking that the canvas will maintain good FAE while keeping in enough moisture with both a coolmist and ultrasonic running 24/7...since it can keep most of the moisture on the inside (although not as much as a martha)

You dont want to use a whick type coolmist unless it is inside your martha. There have been other posts that mentioned this you want an impellar type coolmist.

That's what I'm saying...put the coolmist and ultrasonic inside the martha ann, hopefully, the ultrasonic can make up for any humidity loss due to the fact that it's a canvas closet not plastic.
