Help, Should i birth?.
    #525108 - 01/18/02 10:35 PM (23 years, 2 months ago)

Hi all,
It's my second attempt at growing, The first went green from poor sterilaty in my part. My jars were innoculated around 50 days ago, Some have been 100% for about 2 weeks now but the growth is very thin (see through), Except, Where i innoculated the growth is thicker than anything that i've seen on any picture i can find, And also looks like small pinheads on these spots. One of the jars has tiny water droplets around inside of jar where the thin growth is.
I did want to try experimenting with a casing but i'm worried the inside has not colinized, So i think i'll have to birth some cakes. Just wanted to know if i should go ahead and birth these or leave them longer. I figure 50 days has been a bit long and i think the substrate should be running out of nutrients and jars should also be out of oxigen.
Any help with this much appreciated,
Thanks.

Cool, Thanks fresh357, I guess i'll have to get into it and see how i go. Hopefully no yucky smells.
Do i sprinkle a little verm on top of cake after birth, Some pictures i have seen look like they have a lot put over them with a lot around the bottom of cake, I'll birth, Leave on lids (after turning wright way up), Put on perlite in fruiting chamber, Sprinkle small amount of verm on top of cake.
Is this correct.
Thanks heaps.

If the growth after 50 days looks see through that sounds like cobweb mold but i would have to see a pic? If it smells good then its probably worth a try still.

Thanks peoples,
Just went to birth and got as far as removing the top layer of verm, Then the smell hit. Oh well, Guess i can grow mold preety good. There was 2, The other didn't look as bad, Wasn't seethrough, No water droplets and no yucky smell.
If i can get just one fruit of this i'll be happy, It might even boost my confidence back up a bit.
Thanks peoples.

Next time, birth it at around 3 weeks. It should be colonized fine by then.

no prob.

The smell is actually bacteria in case youre wondering.
But azurepower is right, the only reason that an uncontaminated jar should take that long is if you are keeping the jars cold ( i know from experience: my first jars were back when i didnt have much to heat them with, it took forever.)
