bad news blues
    #524739 - 01/18/02 06:00 PM (14 years, 10 months ago)

Well I think 2 of my cakes are definately doomed. The little blue blobs on them stain tissue blue. Do you think it would be safe to let them flush once or not? I am going to take the other two and put them into bags also. The 2 cakes that I put in the home made terrarium bags are actually working quite well. In fact I think that they are better off than the ones in the pod simply because they are isolated. I really like how the myco bags I ordered from sp0re works are working out though. Really taking off now and maintaining their own 74 degree temp. The room temp is 71. I have 3 other cakes in the pod that are doing well, but they are in there with the infected ones. I am going to isolate two in seperate bags as I said, but the other is pinning so I guess I will have to let it pin then try to isolate it. Any sugestions would be appreciated. I am thinking about taking the infected ones and putting them in a compost pile I have that is mixed with cyprus mulch. Do you think that if they fruit in there they would still be safe?
Do you think they'll fruit? The little blue blobs are small and not completely covering the cakes I tried misting them with peroxide and water, but I do not think that will work. How often should I mist them, and does anyone think it will work?
Thanx,
roaghor

I talked to someone in a forum with alot more exp. than I. He suggested that I swab the affected areas with a qtip and bleach, I did. All I know about them is that the cakes still smell really good, the pins are looking really good, and the blue blobs are on only 2 of the cakes. I picked at a couple of them with a pair of sterile tweezers and the consistency of the was that of a bubble strongly attached to the mycelium. I thought at first that it could just be water dropplets the had bruised and blistered the surface, but I started 2nd guessing that theory. When I tried pulling on them they just kind of split open and the 2 that I pulled off were kind of difficult. I had not seen bruising like this yet. I am not sure if it is contam., but it sure looked like it. I have not found any info. on any website or book that describes or shows a pic. that even resembles my problem. These are small, about 1 cm in diameter and in several places. I had moved the cakes around once, and thought that it might have been bruising from that. Sorry to make this so long winded, but I figured the better I described it the more it could help.

Thanks for replying

I hope he wasn't joking. I meant to say bleach and dab with. Sorry for the miscommunication. Will this actually work?

if you take a gander at the PF tek, you'll read about the existence of "fungi blobs."

these aren't contams. They're solid masses of mycelial matter.

if you split one, and it has the feel of a mushroom, and the smell of a mushroom, it's probably the above.

Yeah they look like the ones on the outer edge of the cake in this pic. Not like the blue not there on the side.

Folks tend to get paranoid if they go without anal sex for too long. You should worry more about puckered poo poos than your cakes. They are fine.
