saving a few bucks
    #524565 - 01/18/02 01:08 PM (21 years, 10 months ago)

I just came up with an idea. In larger setups, there is usually an air filter which passes fresh air onto a humidifier, then into a chamber. The air filter is about $70. Well, what if you placed a filter disk (from micron magic, fungi perfect, wherever) over the air intake of the humidifier, couldn't you cut the air filter out of the process and save a few bucks? Has anyone tried this?

It might work but the filter disk is meant for passive air exchange while the other filters are designed for a certain flow capacity. You might try to find a hepa filter element from a vacuum, they're not as cheap as the filter disks but they're still cheaper. If it's still too expensive, go to Sears vacuum department and buy a package of vacuum bags made using FILTRETE, they're almost up to the HEPA standards but quite a bit cheaper.

evolve also makes me wonder if maybe the filter disk would cause the motor to burn up.
