Hello all, I haven't been round these parts in a while. Well anyways a foaf has these jars colonizing and they are bout 95 percent done with bout a dime size spot not colonized on each, right on the bottom of the jar but they are starting to fruit inside the jars is this normal? And also these jars starting growing really fast with ryzomorphic growth then they slowed down alot whats up with that? May i add they were kept at 80 degrees the whole time. On one of the jars there is a small spot of like brownish colored water oozing around the bottom over the uncolonized spot could this be a contaminte, its not changing the color of the mycelium and its not getting any larger either. well if anyone actually read this ill give you my thanks. Has the spot that wont colonize been there for awhile? Usually the bottom takes the longest to colonize. So you should try and wait a bit more.. and Im not too sure about the brown liquid.

Its sounds like there is excess water draining to that one spot which is preventing growth, however i wouldnt totally rule out contamination. foafoaf may have used a little too much water in the substrate and the excesses are pooling up at the bottom...what substrate are you using? if brf and verm the brown ooze could be just water and brf. The are already fruiting inside the jars? normal.

Well, normally if you had a dime sized spot not colonized I would say that your cakes are drying up and to go head an pop the baby out. I have had jars not fully colonized in one spot and they do fine. I would also say, if you are scared, then just scrape the uncolonized stuff out. But since you say there is water on the uncolonized spot, then I am leary. But since you are fruiting, then pop it out. Scrap out the uncolonized. Should be ok. How many days exactly have they been in the jars.

you can heat up the flat of a nail and burn the uncolonized substrate, that way no mold nore mycilium will grow. it will just be dead substrate. try it!
