perlite instead of verm. in cakes

Would there be anything wrong with using perlite instead of vermiculite to make pf cakes? The reason I ask is I made some cakes and ran out of vermiculite when I was making them so I made two with perlite in the same proportion as the vermiculite required. They have colonized fully and look mighty healty. OK?

Perlite doesnt hold water like vermiculite, it merely wicks it. It may fruit, but you'll have a very low supply of water
