I've been in the process of a new experiment and I've run into something odd that I'd like to get your opinion on. Here's the deal:
I started two jars of LC, one control and one experiment. The control jar was vented with two rubber grommeted ports stuffed with polyfill. The experimental LC was vented with one rubber grommeted port and one small ungrommeted hole, stuffed with polyfill for the PC process, to be fitted later with a small air stone feeding filtered air into the jar. Both jars were treated in the following manner:
1. 1 cup of mineral water 2. 1tsp of honey + 1tsp of karo 3. PC'd for aprox 20 min @ 15 psi 4. allowed to cool 24 hours 5. injected with 5cc each of diluted EQ multispore solution 6. Kept in a TiT @ 80-85*F
I treated the experimental jar in the following manner:
1. soaked the silicone airline and air stone in an enclosed jar with H2O2 for 24 hours. 2. PC'd a seperate jar of mineral water 3. Inside the glovebox: transfered the H2O2 soaked air stone to the PC'd mineral water to rinse. 4. Inside the glovebox: removed the polyfill from the ungrommeted hole in the lid and inserted the rinsed airline with rinsed airstone attached. 5. Inside the glovebox: attached a polyfill air filter to the incoming air line 6. removed the jar assembly from the GB and attached air hose to a valve > air pump (air pump has a polyfill filtered air intake in addition to the inline filter).
The control jar is behaving as expected
The experimental jar is yielding this...thing...
so, in your opinion, is this mycelium or contam? I'm thinking of transfering some of it to another jar without an airstone to see how it behaves. I'm just curious what you think about this...anyone want to take bets?

There is nothing else growing in the jar. This thing has been growing exponentially for about 5 days now.

thats freaky .... could you not have pc'ed the tube and all cause i use fish tank airline tubing and it doesnt melt in the pc cause its made from silicone.
But i have no idea what it is good thinking about transfering some to another jar or to agar

I tried to pc the airline with the airstone connected and assembled in the jar with the LC. The airline broke where it meets the lid of the jar and the plastic on the airstone melted. That's why I soaked in H2O2 this time around. I don't have any petri dishes otherwise I'd transfer to agar. The little white afro really does look like mycelium. I just don't understand why the spores would have attached to the airstone and grouped in a ball like that...

I guess nobody has ever run into this, heh? Oh well, I got some petri dishes today so I'll transfer some to agar and see how it turns out.
