Typical Marxist thinking [Re: AMarxistGardener]

AMarxist Gardener writes:

"1) why SHOULD they get a job?"

Typical Marxist thinking. Why get a job when you can be a parasite? Honest people get jobs so they can support themselves and their families.

"so they can aspire to be head burger flipper, instead of a grunt? not much room to aspire to."

More typical Marxist thinking. What you are saying, in essence, is that if the job you accept today doesn't allow you to become as wealthy as Bill Gates, there is no point in taking the job. Better to suck off the public teat.

When I was a district manager for a very large computer reseller in Canada, my top four salespeople were all ex-MacDonald's burger-flippers. Three of them made more money in a year than I did. My stockroom attendant was also an ex-MacDonald's burger-flipper, as was my secretary.

The stockroom attendant was perfectly content to remain in his position. The relatively low salary it paid him was all he felt he required in order to provide him the lifestyle he wanted. He had no desire to work the sixty to seventy hour weeks that the commissioned sales force did.

My secretary DID want to make more money, so she learned the basic priciples of computing, studied the product line and became a sales rep. She was good at it. The secretary I hired to replace her had never flipped burgers, but she had worked the concession stand at a cinema complex and waited tables at a rock bar.

"2) in terms of canada, i know for a fact "break even day " its in januar, if not the 2nd."

You are mistaken. As one who was intimately familiar with the accounting figures for a large Canadian corporation, I know for a fact that in Canada, corporations pay more than 8.3 % of their annual revenue to the government in taxes.

As well, the government collects "goods and services tax" on any materials the corporation buys in order to provide its products. The corporation also pays a substantial percentage of its revenue in mandatory "contributions" to: Canada Pension Plan, Unemployment Insurance premiums, Workman's Compensation premiums, Provincial Health Care premiums, etc. All of these expenses are in fact taxes, regardless of whatever term the government uses to describe them.

"canada is SO not a socialist country."

According to you, pre-Pinochet Chile was the only Democratic Socialist state in history, so it is not surprising you would make such a statement. Others would disagree, particularly those living in countries who consider themselves to be Socialist. Why do you consider Sweden to not be Socialist? Every Swede I have ever met considers it to be.

"4) i would like to see a corporation get off the ground and survive without roads, an sanitation, etc. modern communities need such amenities to exist..."

The oldest corporation in the world, The Hudson's Bay Company, settled a third of a continent with no roads, no sewage treatment plants, no assistance from government.

As for modern communities... it is not necessary for government to build roads or sewage treatment plants in order for such things to exist. Large stretches of British Columbia, Africa, the Amazon basin, and other geographical areas are serviced entirely by roads (and water and sewage systems) that were built by private industry.
