Aight man. You're better off knocking up brf jars with a spore syringe than an untested LC.

LC has always worked for my purposes. I've used the same Shroomery sponsor for about 8 years now. My jars have an RTV inoculation port and poly-filter elevated with some gasket tubing. PC @ 10 PSI for 20 minutes. Syringe in open air and clone in a glove box.
Having said that I should mention that I have other hobbies that I do push technically. With mushrooms I don't care to mess with agar or advance the hobby further in any other way. Everything has been thought through to require the least effort at every step. I get consistent results, lots of shrooms, happy.

Absolutely. That doesn't just go for growing mushrooms. The simplest solution to any problem is generally the correct one.

If anyone has used RTV for their innoc points in LC jars... Can you help me with the size needle that should be used for it to be self healing? As i used a larger needle in a big syringe and it has left a hole in the RTV which is supposed to be self healing? The needle i was using is 32 gauge, too big?

32 gauge is super tiny, I'd have trouble sucking up any of the actual myc in my LC if I used a syringe that small. I doubt a 32 is punching holes in your ports unless the syringe is flat tipped, and not pointed. I had these huge 10 gaugers that I used back when I still did LCs', but they would EAT up silicon ports like mad so I stopped using the larger gauges.
If you're working in a SAB, you could just crack the lid and inoculate.
If you're capable of working in a SAB, you should probably just skip LC altogether and learn how to use agar.

Yeahh i seeee, Haha I have had a little trouble suckking up myc from LC with 32 gauge but i am really hesitant as i dont want to 'disrupt' the RTV, Never used RTV before.. I have only had one successful LC using just micropore tape and this is ALSO in a SAB too... Yes i have mixed up some agar at the same time as well... Haha half of it set on me though, so i could only pour up 9 plates out of 20...

instead of using micropore tape for your LC, you can sacrifice a pillow for its sweet polyfill stuffing. my lc is filtered with dogbed stuffing because my lab-pointer chewed her bed to shreds, and that shit is way too expensive at Michael's.

It's amazing this lc thread is still going. I'm impressed I can't wait to get started with lc.

Yeah fair enough... For some reason i have been quite hesitant towards using polyfill as opposed to micropore just because i dont want to use an old pillow which could be dirty (even though i would PC it) and some how ruin my work :P I think i may give syringe filters a go? See how they turn out? how do you use your polyfil anyway? Peace

punch a 1/2" hole in the middle of a jar lid, take a small pinch of polyfill, fold it over once, then stuff the folded side into the hole.

Has anyone ever proven if one is better than the other out of polyfil/tyvek/micropore tape? I mean it would be cool if somehow they did a study to find out what's the best method out there.

Whatman filter is best for LC lids IMO.
