So I did this tek successfully.....I hope!!! The only thing I was wondering is, If it is a good LC, What will happen with all the sediment once the myc stops growing? Will I be able to draw it up in the syringe along with the myc and use it? Here's some before and after stir pictures.
I know they're not the best pics, but it's the best I can do.

I little update on my lc made with this tek. I pulled it up into a syringe and noc'ed up some cakes with it I was extremely worried because all the growth was amber in color. In the syringe it was completely white. I was excited now to see if it's contam free.

How long could it take for mycelium starting to form?
It's been 6 days since i inoculated my jars, and only the smallest one has shown growth. And that growth seems to encapsule the sediment from the honey..
Should i be patient?
They are standing right beneath a radiator to receive as much heat as possible.

"They are standing right beneath a radiator to receive as much heat as possible"
...and there it is.
What temps are the colonizing at?
Heating is not a good idea in general, and even more so with LCs, as it supports bacterial blooms.
Room Temp is sufficient.
Good luck,

Ok. So I made some liquid culture (using this tek obviously) about 2 weeks ago.
There's no cloud of mycelium in the jar, only a lot of tiny strings.

I'm concerned that something has gone wrong...I can see in the post above that it's a no go to put it next to a radiator, which mine also has been. Maybe thats why there is no real growth.
But can you guys tell if this is any good or if I have to toss it and start over again.

I'd give it a little more time. Ive had my LCs take almost 3 weeks to get going while others see signs with in 4 days. Not saying it isnt lost but have a jar on the shelf for another week wont hurt. However i would say try starting over with a new jar while that one sits. Have you tried karo or the turbinado style LC?? I personally have had the best luck with those type had the least with honey. Had most luck with the karo but its what i started with
but the recipe for each is:
karo: 100ml water to 4cc karo
Turbinado Sugar LC: 220ml water to 5grams of turbinado sugar (Sugar in the Raw packet are 5g)
PC 10-15 minutes for either.

I'm gonna give it another week then and in the mean time prepare a new jar, this time with karo.
I just don't get it. When I first startede out using this tek with honey(a couple of years ago) it was a instant succes. After that it has just been hit and miss (most of the times a miss). But it's maybe because i'm using honey as you said.
But are you really gonna use much more karo compared to honey?

For most karo teks I've seen its 4% karo to water which is a little under 1 teaspoon per 100ml which technically is 4.9cc to 100ml. Ive had more success with the 4cc then 5cc.

i used a tablespoon to 250 ml of water and had great success within 5-7 days then i used that jar to knock up a jar with just a little bit of honey and 200 ml of water and it spawned within just a coupe days

I think a tablespoon per 250ml was an overestimate, it should be more like a teaspoon...

I have used several formulas, but one of them was a Tblspn of each of LDM and dextrose per quart of H2O.
This does amount to close to 1/2 Tblspn per 250 ml.
I have also used 1.5 tspn of each per quart which is a slightly less sweet formula.
Take care,
JD

Thanks for the easy tek. I've been reluctant to try any that don't involve PCing, but it's great to see that there are so many members that have had success with this.

hey people, this guy here in shroomery did a thread of a mini experiment, i tried it too (it was his idea) but it came out really good and i think it really works for trying out your LC's work.. so you dont regret doing all the jars and then finding out that it was contamed, thats sucks.
So make tequila shots cakes.. they colonize 100% in a week or so, so its pretty good and fast to see if your LC is in good conditions.. it helped me and i hope it helps you guys, peace!!

Well, I've just read this ENTIRE thread and I want to say thanks!
thanks to Otto for setting out such an easy tek, and thanks to everyone who has contributed, I feel like I've learnt loads.
got a funny question that no one seems to have mentioned tho: When you put the lid on the jar to boil it a second time, do you tighten the lid? I'm assuming not, since surely the expansion caused by heating it could break it or the jar?
oh, and how are you guys keeping the jar at prime inoculation temp? 27C is a bit higher than room temp so... reptile heating pad?
Cheers again, lets keep this thread alive through 2012 (or just sticky it).

Leave it a bit loose and finish tightening once you've removed it from the sterile environment. Be sure to sanitize and disinfect your hands prior to touching your LC.

Your welcome ZombieJ! I wouldn't bother leaving your lid loose, as since it has a hole punched in it the pressure won't build up.
To keep it warm you can build a tub-in-tub incubator, but room temp (24C) is fine for incubation, it just takes a couple of extra days to be ready.

hey people!! well i made an LC and inoculated 8 tequila shot glasses so if it was fucked up, not to fuck all the work made with jars, first wanted to see if it was clean.. so i did these guys and looks very weird, i would say contam but its so weird that i dont know.. the trace of water that you make in every hole, it took shape but instead of growing there it like got dried or something, just a few parts mycelium is growing. Now that i took pictures to upload them i see some green there, but like dry.. i guess the whole LC is contamed :S what do you think? and maybe it might be on the contam forum, but since it was from LC i thought here are more experts on this to tell me.. if not anyone can move it. thanks!
