Assuming this works and there appear to be no contams, how long could the mycelium last in the jar for?

I.e, could the ones we made last November still be alive?

I read a post in the thread that mentioned an LC via this method was still fully viable after 8 months in the fridge. Hope this helps.

It is really beginner friendly LC tek. Thank you for the detailed description!

I followed this tek to the T. It's been a bit over four days, after inoculating with 1CC of spores (All I had left in either syringe), into two sterilized pint jars with 1 1/2 tsp of Karo.

I swirl 'em and I'm not seeing any kind of myc growing, I've got my eyes open for the ropes, but just some tiny, near microscopic bits. I've figured if 2CCs with a half pint takes a week, 1CC in a full pint might take around a month, and that's not factoring in volume.

Could someone point me in the right direction? They're in a cabinet above my fridge, in a nice, warm ~80 degree environment with no altering climate, and the closed, wooden cabinet doors would allow for any needed GE.

Hillbilly & Tasmanian strains. Two I'm hoping to see a *lot* more of.

I followed the tek and at day three here is what my "lc" looks like. I want to note that on day one all that could be seen in the solution is spores. Does anyone know what the hell is floating around in there?

Do the spores expand like that before myc growth? Guess I should wait er out a few more days before I decide to toss. The is my first lc by the way

Not really.

Why would you toss it after only 3 days?

Spores have been known to take 2+ weeks to germinate and show growth.

Then you have to wait for the LC to grow out, then shoot up test jars...

And I hope it will be your last, for your sake.

Spores are by far the worst way to start an LC.

Wow dude if you read the original post then you would see that this teks lc is said to be ready in about a week and has spore injection as one of the options. I followed this tek because it was easy and I had limited supplies. No need to be rude

I was not rude at all.

I simply stated facts.

I am sorry if you took it personal.

I was sincere about that last part, there are better ways than messing with LCs, especially LCs from spores.

I suggest researching G2G and spawning to bulk if you really want to expand your mycellium.

Not talkin shit about the tek, just being real.

The thing is this tek is kinda not the greatest.  A lot of people have contam problems with lc so if you are going to do it you should do it with the right stuff a pc injections ports.  If you don't have that stuff you should just use spore solution to inoculate.  Anyway since you started it the pieces floating around are probably caramelised sugar and 3 days isn't enough time to see anything.  I know the tek says a week but people are just trying to inform you that that's not there experience .  After 2 weeks if its working it should look like this.

After 3 days that jar looked the same as the day I started it.  If it does work it dosnt nesecarily mean its not contaminated and should be tested on a pf jar

...and after you injected a needle to your lc to shoot up a test jar,
you may have contaminated your lc.
That calls for another test jar to be shot up.
And then you have it going..

I don't see anything "beginner friendly" about a lc...

I would agree with the statement "there's nothing beginner friendly about LC's".  They have a pretty big learning curve and it takes forever for new growers to realize that LC's are best inoculated with known and proven culture on an agar wedge than they are to inoculate with spores.

QFT

Spores and chunks of mushrooms or pins into a LC is a sure fire way to waist substrates. Noobs try to go LC to skip their agar fears but ironically the best way to start a LC is with agar, but then you could just use the agar wedges and then g2g after that.

Thanks for clearing that up bud. I'll post again in a week or so. I'll definitely go for a "better" method once I have the proper items. For now I'm just experimenting bc I had some extra spore solution and no pc
