If you aren't seeing anything in two weeks, you can toss it.

When doing a test cake, how far along does it have to be before you can be sure the source LC is clean?

You'll know if it's bad pretty quick. But you can't call it good for sure until you see fruits.

awesome tek, Ive been using LC`s for about a year now, never really mentioned it because people freak out and, start screaming all kinds of bull shit. i hope this tek furthers LC`S and gives them the respect they deserve. i use saborouad agar- you should see how fast PAN mycelium grows in that, 3 days and the jar is past done!!

Many thanks! =)
I will definitely try another method the next time around. I could have had 2 more cakes with the spores I put in those LC's!

Quick note on spores- spore water is potent, a few drops is all you need in LC or most jars.
Be stingy with spores.

Cynosure said: I've had two LC's from this tek going for a little over two weeks now and there is no sign of mycelium growth. There is sediment at the bottom of the jar that I stir every so often, but I'm pretty sure that it isn't mycelium (and it definitely isn't expanding).
Should I go ahead and toss these and give it another shot?
I recently used some 2 year old spores that weren't stored well, and it took 6 weeks for the to germinate in an LC. But they eventually came through, I reckon I was very luck that they did. Looked like only one inoculation point on the bottom of the liquid, may have been lucky enough to get just a few to germinate. It was a fluke I think but gives you an idea of how long it *CAN* take sometimes...

in the tek, otto says to cover with foil when incubating... would it be ok to use micropore tape to cover that hole and get rid of the foil? or is the hole too big that it would give too much gas exchange this way

It would be ok to use micropore tape, you could leave the foil on and put micropore underneath which would work well too - just don't let the micropore get wet.

Here are some pics of my current results using this method.
These were inoculated on 4/11. The one labeled 'Cambo' was from a print and the 'GT' jar was from MS Syringe.
I have a couple of questions about these LC's...assuming they're viable, how long will they stay viable? And what can i do to prolong their life? Should I put them away in the fridge if I don't plan on using them right away? Also, if you get time, _OttO_, check out my thread I made using your bucketing tek. I could really use some advice over there. I feel like im on the right path but could sure use the extra guidance/affirmation from the trusted jedi's around here! Countless thanks goes out to _OttO_ for inspiring my recent foray into shroom cultivation!!!

Just want to add that I've got a 2+ yr old lc jar that's been being used constantly, it's still viable currently. It's just 4% karo solution. I think LCs will last in the fridge for 5 yrs honestly.

Is there a way to make liquid culture without having already harvested mushrooms?

Excellent news!!! What temp do you store your LC's?

fwiw, I haven't harvested any of these yet (pics above)...the cambos were from a print my friend made...and the Golden Teachers were from syringe procured from an online vendor.

$1.69? Where do you buy your agar? It's like 10 bucks on Amazon (I live in Belgium, can't find it in the shops where I live).

Try ebay. I'm in the UK and there is a good supplier here. Ebay agar powder.
