My temps are by the books not recomended. I live in Portugal and the temps got to 90 in some days. The temps are very important when you inoc though as the heat can kill the spores.

yea, I know theres a heat wave in the us. my temps are usually optimal. bit lately theyve ben rising into the high 80s close to 90. the mycelium seems do be doing ok. I inoculated some jars that where still pretty warm to the touch on a hot day and there colonizing fast. im not sure what temp spore death occurs..

if Im not mistaken it 104F,
Im dealing with heat issues also, they will still grow but tend to slow due to high temps and your flushes wont be as good as they would have been in optimal conditions. my temps are in the 80-90F range and everything still colonizes just needs a couple more days to complete. oh and mold likes to onset alot quicker in the high temps only giving a flush or 2 instead of 4 or 5.
I have to get a window A/C unit to cool my room down to 75F.
just some fyi.

Wow, I've been digging around on the forums and had been debating doing a LC for a while, but could only find rather complex and time consuming teks (not that I don't have time for them). Came in today to check the forums for more useful information and found this.
I'm on my first (well technically second) attempt at growing mushrooms, but this time I'm much more serious about it and would love to get into a small bulk grow. I just want to say a large THANKS! to _OTTO_. I can't wait to give it a try (just waiting on spores). When I can give out 5 shrooms, you'll be one of the first people to get it

lol small pic. I was curious would gypsom speed up a lc if used? I know its sped up the colonization of my jars significantly.

Can the pot part be replaced with a Pressure Cooker?
Is the honey and the heat what make the spores germinate in this jar as opposed to inside a spore syringe?
If I wanted to take mycelium from the middle of a mushroom and throw it in here how would I go about it?

I hate to be one of "those people" but the search function is useful
like i found here and the water is what makes the spores germinate. the honey provides a nutritive substance to live off of. Heat will kill your spores..

If the water is what makes your spores germinate then how do spore syringes last weeks and months?

Sometimes you will find mycelium strings in a syringe. I believe its the added nutrients that help it along though.

But how do you know that the mycellium growing in the LC is from the spores you've added and not the endospores that reside in Honey? Is there a way to differentiate the two?

I've heard that honey contains anti-fungal properties. Has anyone come across this?

Honey is a preservative. If used in big amounts, spores won't develop.

... just a clarification.
After I see growth in the jar (i.e. one week later) do I need to fill up all my syringes with the LC? Or can I just leave the jar in my fridge and retrieve the LC with a syringe only when I need it.
Thanks ahead of time.

You may leave it in the fridge.
