I am reminded of Carsten's suggestion that I use some wood tea when making the dishes that I intended to get a wood lover's stubborn spores to germinate on.
There must be nice "tree stuff" in that syrup. (note the technical term ;0)
Take care,

Love agar.
Never bothered dicking around with LC's once I realized how easy it is to prepare and work with agar.
Too many people speak of and treat agar work like it's some esoterically complex and difficult thing to do.
But it's not.
Especially some of the "no-pour" teks I've seen around here. They really bring agar to the noob in a way that's simple, affordable and easy.
I'm confident that if everyone here would realize that agar work is perfectly within the scope of even the most noobish of noobs, we'd rarely, if ever, even hear about LC's again.
I'm not bashing the people who use them, but I will preach against the use of LC's to my dieing day.
Yes, it works, but it's just not practical when compared to the superior results, reduced work load, and confidence in sterility that agar provides.
Can you elaborate on why agar provides more sterility? I certainly have noticed it in my limited run of Gelatin/Malt vs Agar/Malt recipes. Not statistically significant (3 runs), but still have noticed a difference in contamination rates.

Thanks Javadog. How does a contam hide any different in gelatin than agar? Anything to do with viscosity? Or is it because anything (including contams) will grow faster in agar than gelatin, and thus be able to spot it sooner? I have noticed faster growth in agar over gelatin in my cultivations so far.

I have a feeling you're talking about LC made with agar rather than agar plates, am I right?
Yup
