the Best WBS ?

so while i was out buying some random supplies yesterday and happened upon the Wild Bird Seed. i'm itching to try it, but i have a few other projects i have to wrap ut and/or get going first. i was pretty amazed how cheap the shit is. i mean, considering the price-per-pound on BRF and whole organic brown rice. 40lbs for under $10.00 is damn good.
i noticed the bags i found had Milo as the main ingredient, THEN Millet. along w/ cracked corn and sunflower seeds.
should millet be the main ingredient? does it matter if it's Red or White or Mixed?
also, since i noticed how much better my PF jars were going once i started adding Flax Seed Meal to em, i want to add it to my WBS too. anyone else do this? i figuured i'd mix it in to the ready-made WBS before filling the jars to PC.
also, and i'm sure it's a no-brainer, but you DON"T want any WBS mixes W/ peanuts - right?

IMO the best WBS mixes are the ones that contain the least sunflower seeds. Milo & millet content don't seem to make a big difference. My favorite WBS is Pennington's brand Finch Seed. It has no sunflower seeds, just sunflower "chips", but you don't get as much for your money. My second fav is Pennington's Wild Bird Seed. It has alot of sunflower seeds, but you get a shitload of it for a good price.

Try cracked corn.
I dont understand why cc is not more poppular than it is. The colonization times on cc are astounding. The first signs of growth in 6-8 days, shake on day 10 when the sub is 10% colonized, then full colonization at day 12. And thats just 2cc multispore!

I usually just buy the cheapest WBS I can find. As far as sunflower seeds, I just skim the floaters off, and jar it. The only prob with cheap wbs, is there is usually alot of sticks and stuff, but that stuff floats too, lol. Pretty much, if it floats, you wanna skim it out during your soak.

my parent's have a grain mill (not a huge thing, but it stands about 15 feet tall and probably holds at least a 1/2 ton of cracked corn. they feed it to the cows and chickens, horses eat a lil too. i KNOW that shit is cheap. my only concern is that 50lb bags of CC from the feed store has ALOT of DUST (corn and otherwise)...
do you just rinse the CC out then soak? sorry, nvm, i'll read a Tek...

Of course I spawn the cc. What else would a person do?
Fruiting from straight grain is a waste of time and effort. Why would you make 30 quarts of grain to fruit from, when you can just make 7 and spawn that to 30 quarts of poo.
Straight grain is like a sin to me.

having done a lil more reseach on the possibilities i noticed a few more variances in WBS ingredients. esp w/ the more expensive type (which i still wouldnt consider expensive for bulk sub)...
i know milo, millet, sunflower seeds or chips, cracked corn is all good. peanuts are obviously not good.
but what about these types that contain CALCIUM CARBONATE (could this help or hinder), VITAMIN A PALMITATE and VITAMIN D PALMITATE.
what about these? huh, huh?

I imagine most WBS brands will end up the same after you filter them with the WBS tek. I'd just buy the cheapest. Everything you don't need will float to the surface, and any contams are easily removed.
Check out this Tek

IMHO all i was concerned about is whether the additives (calcium carb, and the vitamin A&D palmitate.
-the cal carb (could) be beneficial as a buffer in a casing? -the vitamin additives could be good for more nutes? -the vitamin additives could either work themselves out during soak/steeping OR make a GOO in the jars during PC?
