Through the use of the chamber and the ayuahsca/peyote(?), he was able to connect with cosmic consciousness and "experience the a regressive process" of the evolution on this planet from nothingness, to single celled organism, to ape, to man.
Robert Anton Wilson details this theory using Timothy Leary work on the 8 neurological circuit model.
I give the movie a 9 out of 10.
I'm not saying it has no meaning with him turning into an ape. What I'm saying is that the meaning sucked. On the beginning he was kind of spiritually evolved and then he regressed for some reason. So the idea this movie is promoting is somewhat anti-psychedelic, if not completely. at the beginning of the movie the alternatives were two: The first where he could find in the genetic information a way to evolve and the second to regress. By choosing to be back in the evolution scale, the movie became shitty. And if that was not enough, it continues like some cheap soap opera, in which the chock "saves" him and then he saves the chick.

He wasn't spiritually in control or advanced in any way. He went too deep into the rabbit whole, tapped into a force (Universal Memory)he had no "self" control over, and what started as a spiritual/psychedelic observation lead into a physical experience.
So no he was never "spiritually evolved." He simply stepped through a door after taking the Amanita Muscaria, and was lost in the realms of it's experience. He got sucked up into this powerful whirpool, and got caught up in the univereses memories which "he turnt real" with MIND POWER. One of the messages I feel they are trying to express is mind over matter. Him turning into an ape had an incredible meaning.

We know that hamburgers and hot dogs definitely do exist, so then by deduction of logic God too must also exist. Hamburgers + Hot dogs = God.... Duh

Dude you keep talking about the "meaning". What meaning do you see? Try to give arguments, one of them would be to say the meaning you say it has.
