Outdoor grows are so much fun. I suggest super spawning. Take 30 pounds of poo, pasteurize it and spawn it with 20 quarts of colonized wbs or cc. Let that colonize indoors, in a rubbermaid. Then take that and spawn about 100 pounds of poo and straw mix outdoors in a shady spot. It really is pwnage.

It aint that big of deal. The pests problem aint that bad. I used to hate when the squirrels and slugs got in my little 2x2x2 foot patch. But then i just decided to make a patch large enough that no matter what, the squirrels and slugs couldnt possibly eat enough grain and mycelium or mushrooms to make a dent in the mass of the fruiting area/mycelium mass.

In state in the u.s can support a few good flushes of cubes at some time of the year, its timing.

well i know where i live liberty caps grow rampantly. im sure you could grow those in our more northern climate. if they grow natrally anyways you could get a damn nice outdoor patch i would assume. so far i havn't thought much about it and i know little about liberty cap growing. im slowly convincing myself right now to start though.

The only thing I can think of is that maybe many of the shroomery members live in urban areas where outdoor growing is difficult or impossible.

:yesnod:

Any piece of land around here that looks good to grow on will have a sign on it with the name of the construction company that will be building on it soon. I would LOVE to do an outdoor grow, but South Florida is slowly becoming one giant neighborhood. All the snowbirds keep moving down. A house that cost $100,000 10 years ago will easily go for $400,000 now. I saw a fixer-upper 3 bedroom 1 bath house for $375,000 the other day - Yipeeeee, time to put the wifey to work on the street corner!

Sounds like my old days of hunting through fields for shrooms. FYI- rock salt hurts like a mofo. If you hear Farmer Bill walking towards you, don't try to explain anything to him, just run. I made that mistake and before I could get the first word out, I got pelted in the chest, then in the ass and back while running away.

The best way to go is to get the OK from the property owner ahead of time, otherwise, he'll think you're cow tipping or worse........

A cow fucker! :smirk:

My question is, why don't more people grow outdoors?

CLIMATE

Temps are usually the main reason that people don't grow outside more often.

In my part of the woods you can only grow Cubensis outdoors for a few months.

Sometimes I wished I lived in Southern California.

you can start an outdoor patch whenever the conditions are right. Once the outside temperature and humidity get to where mushrooms like it you should probably start the patch oatman.

I'm not sure about outdoor cubensis patches, but for azurescens (which I'm going to give a go this spring) Anno says (at www.fungifun.org ) to prepare your patch as soon as the snow melts from the ground, and like no later than early May I believe.
