Oatman's Chocolate Recipe * 5
    #5226792 - 01/26/06 04:41 PM (18 years, 2 months ago)

Here's an effective way of preserving your mushrooms for long term storage, and for that "Just right dosage"

I don't know if you like the taste of Mushrooms, but personally I hate em. They taste like I stuck a dirty sock in my mouth. This recipe will solve that problem, by making "Perfect" size doses that taste great too.

-THIS RECIPE WILL MAKE APPROXIMATELY 50-55 DOSES-

Ingredients needed for this recipe are as follows

- 1  12oz. Bag Nestle's Toll house chocolate chips
- 1  10oz. Bag Andes Mint chocolate Baking chips
- Double Boiler
- Ice cube Trays
- 1 cup, chopped dried Mushrooms
- Teaspoon
- 1 cup measuring cup
- Rubber spatula

First, get your double boiler and fill the bottom pot with a little under half full of water and place on the oven burner at med/high heat until it comes to a boil. Once the pot comes to a slow boil, turn the temp down to med heat.

Second, dump both bags of chips in the top pot. I recommend dumping the Andes Baking Chips in first. These tend to melt with a more of a liquid consistency. Easier to stir.

While the chocolate is melting in the Double Boiler, I like to chop up my dried mushrooms. To chop them I use an electric chopper.
**Using a coffee grinder makes them too powdery and results in a quick experience. making the mushrooms a little chunkier will help this out in making the night last a little while longer.

after you have chopped up your mushrooms, you need to measure out 1 cups worth and place it to the side for now.

Go back to your chocolate on the stove, and it should be good and melted. Stir it a few times to get a nice smooth texture.

Once that is complete, move the pot to the area that you will be working, and dump the cup of chopped mushrooms into the pot. I recommend using a rubber spatula to stir in the mix. this way you can get all the chocolate, and powdery dust that will stick to the side of the pot.

After you have it good and stirred, you will need to spoon it out into a mold. I use ice cube trays. they make great molds, and are stackable.
**Note when finding ice cube trays make sure that they stack without forming into one another.

Fill each cube with 1 teaspoon full of chocolate. Doing this will result in 1/2 of the cube to be filled. Any more will be massive chunks of chocolate, and can be overwhelming to eat in one sitting.

Make sure you scrape the sides of the pot with the rubber spatula, to get the most out of your recipe. After all your trays have been filled, lightly tap them on the table to even out the chocolate, resulting in a nice smooth finish.

Place them in a fridge for 2 Hrs. or more, and allow to cool.

Once cooled. "Crack" the tray like you would full of ice cubes, and dump out into a small bucket, or tray.

For long term storage, place in freezer. or fridge. If the chocolate turns white, it is still good. It just means it is aging a bit.

I recommend individually wrapping in aluminum foil If transporting to a location where the experience will take place. This will keep them from melting together, and also free from mess.

Last but not least...  Enjoy and Good Luck!

Take you starting dry weight in shrooms, and divide by the number of chocolates created.

Nice pictorial man... I was doing basically the EXACT same thing myself before christmas...made some VERY nice gifts!

I liked to just weigh out my shroom powder first and make sure I really mixed em good so I had a good idea of how much was in each.

Man I was looking everywere for chocolate molds or something I could use as one...I opened my freezer and saw the Ice Cube trays.. PEFRECT... I wish I would have read this before searching around town for some kind of tray and finding what I needed in the freezer. they work great. And I agree half filled is best otherwise your gonna be eating a shit load of chocolate.

I used a 1Kg bar of Cadbury Chocolate... Three unrealated people told me they thought it tasted exactly like Areo bars... Had the same bubbley texture...man there great!!! Not offensive at all.

Hehe.  There's a specialty store in my area, I got molds with 8-10 holes per tray ~ 1-2 gms a piece.  Colored chocolates, and molds for every season.  My favorite is a mexican boy playing guitar.  I couldn't have done it without you oatman

Do you think that you could pour the chocolate into an icing bag then squirt it into the molds? Is spooning all that a hassle?

How do you feel the consistance of dosage is from chocolate to chocolate? Usually when i make chocolates I put a measured dose of powered or chopped shrooms in each mold instead of the whole thing into the pot. I always worry about one chocolate being way strong another being really weak, have you ever had this problem?

I do my chocolates a bit rougher on the shroom griding using a mortar and pestle instead after cutting them pretty fine with scissors or sometimes just crushing them. I use 4g per chocolate and usually eat 2. If I want I can still eat just one and have a great time, I almost never eat my mushies any other way anymore. I will soon have Pans and intend to try them in chocolates as well, the idea of even smaller even less mushie in them chocolates sounds very appealing.

Bag? maybee no... it's kind of liquidity. Especially if you use the andes mint baking chips. I thought about a squeezy ketchup bottle looking thing... bought a chocolate kit at walmart, and it came with one. but haven't used it.

doses are consistant. (Mix real good)

i have tried to individually make each cube, and that is a PITA! you end up spilling more chocolate, therefore wasting alot.

i stired it up cube by cube with a chopstick. lets just say that some of it doesn't mix in and when you crack them out... some are powdery on the bottom.  Woops!

Hay oatman, Nice choc tek :congrats:
Dirty sock in the mouth with some old cheese,:projectile: I feel your pain.

I've got a few ounce of ban phang ka & z-strain & want to preserve some of it in chocolate.

I am gonna make some single strain chocolates and make some with a 50/50 mix of the strains.

The Z's have a good body feeling like a earth Chakra, and my BPK's work the higher ones like the head.
Should be good.

You say that you put 60g of shroom in for those two half trays yes. Thats about 50/50 shroom chocolate.

What do you think the limit of shroom that the chocolate can bind to and still set OK.
I want them to be nice and strong :tripping:

Thanks.
