Question for people who ever owned a Sega Genesis

Were any of you as lucky as I was to have The Sega Channel?
It was so great back in the day.
There was an adapter you put into your Sega and it hooked up to the cable outlet. We got access to 25 (or was it 50?) games every 2 weeks and they changed them out after the two week period with 50 other games.
I spent hours upon hours of my life as a child playing tons of Sega games. Ah those were the good ol' days. They ended the service once the N64 and Playstation came out.
I was just wondering if The Sega Channel was a local thing or if it was more wide spread.
So how bout it?

I got it. I was a Sega nut.
Its where I learned about Virtua Racing and Bomberman. Two revolutionary games. Way ahead of their times.
I had everything. Sega CD, 32X, and eventually got the Saturn and Dreamcast. Still play DC occasionaly.
I still beleive that Genesis was the more "adult" of the two big systems back then. SNES seemed to always have the lame kiddy games. While Sega was pumping out all the cool "rated M for Mature" games.

i wanted the sega channel, but parents wouldn't let me get it. they thought just having a game system was bad enough.
genesis was the best system ever. i've got a ps2 downstairs right now, but i've only turned it on once in the last 5 months. why? because i've got a genesis emulator on my computer and would rather play those games.

yeah, we got the Sega channel for a short period of time until they ended it. it was really cool, technologically ahead of its time since the internet, and hence access to game databases like this, had not even begun to be of interest to most people at that time. it was probably, what, 1992?
those were the days. i remember playing bomberman for hours and hours.

Same here, the only OK one was the Star Wars game. It had pretty good graphics and full motion video. Problem was, my mom's co-worker's husband was a computer genious and had all the toys. He had the exact same game, but for computer, and it looked a million times better on computer, as is usually the case, even these days. From then on, my alliegence was to computers, even though, like I mentioned previously, I still bought the Saturn, which had some ok games. Like Panzer Dragoon.

My best friend had it for the short time it was around. That thing was aaaaaawwwweeeesssssoooommmeee. The only thing that sucked was the games would change every now and then. I still think toe jam and earl is one of the best games ever created EVER! I'm gonna get me a sega towards the beginning of summer just to play that game. Toejam and earl 2 sucks ass though

I still have my original genesis and one original controller. Button B rarely works and when it does, you have to pretty much mash the hell out of it to get it to work. It also has a 3 foot cord. Which absolutley sucks. And I also own the orginal Road Rash 3 that I bought after giving hockey lessons to the neighborhood kids, even though they were older than me. Hahaha.

This is the first I've heard of the Sega Channel although I did have a Genesis.
Also, I think it's safe to say that the Dreamcast eclipses all consoles.

Streets of rage! I spent countless days and weeks of my youth playing those games. Another top five contender. Another is Golden axe. I used to be the little old guy with an axe. Bad ass

You guys are forgetting "Altered Beast". Then there were all the NHL games with variations of "the wrap-around" shot which let you score every time. The basketball "Bulls VS. XXX" were cool, each superstar has a special move.
I was always partial to "NBA Jam" with all the big head players and secret celebrities.

How about Desert Strike series? Those were fun as well.
One of my best gaming moments ever happened in NHL'94. My friend and I were on the same team, playing against Gretsky and the Kings. Well, we both took control of the defensemen and the computer took control of another player on our team, we all 3 checked Gretsky at the EXACT same time, and the game froze, with a freezeframe of Gretsky being obliterated against the boards. There was about a 15-20 second moment of sheer disbelief on both our faces, and they we just busted up laughing. It probably is the #1 gaming moment of my life, and I still bring it up to him whenver I see him back home.
Anybody got any cool gaming stories like that?

Holy shit man, 5 shrooms for you. Edit: Apparently I've already given you 5 shrooms. Oh well. hehe
TJ&E is my favorite Sega game of all time! I've got a Genesis emulator and the TJ&E ROM. You should play online with me sometime.
TJ&E 2 definitely wasn't as good as the first, but it was decent. I've beaten it before and it was hard as hell.
I never did get a chance to play TJ&E 3 on Xbox. Anyone ever play it?

I had the sega channel for about 3 months. It was the bomb wayy before the internet got onto computers. Usually had fast load times too.
There was this game I played on that where you were a soccer kid and you made your way down this street juggling the ball and kicking it at stuff. Thats the only game I remember playing on it, but I remember it being awesome nonetheless.

I can't remember exactly what it was, but there was some crazy fast fast fast monster in toe jam and earl that used to get me every time. Nothing made me jump around the room more than that damn monster. Also the pressent that messed up all the identities of the other pressents aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh. Still the best though
p.s. post 100. woot!

Dude, I downloaded that Segagen rip and now I play genesis games on my Dreamcast. Hella
Some brothers on dcemulation.com used to mod the hell out of their Dreamcasts. I had a NES controller rigged up too, and was thinking about doing a Genesis mod. I don't have a solder iron though.
I'd love to have a big box of Genesis games and a real system though. Never owned one, but always played my friend's system. The Sega channel was in Canada too! Rogers put it on mang

I still own Skitchin!!! Hahahaha. Was playing that the other day as a matter of fact. I was really stoned though. I like how they made the skyscapes pretty accurate of the various cities. I used to love playin on the Denver one and thinking it was pretty cool cuz my grandma lived in Denver. Lame, I know, but I was a damn cool kid, I must say.

wait.. what?!
I had a sega genesis and I loved it to death, but I had no idea that such a thing as that existed.
I wish I still had my genesis. Sadly, I don't. A friend borrowed it from me when I wasn't using it very much, and when I finally managed to get it back from him he had sold all the games and lost the cable that connected it to the TV. For some reason I didn't kick the living shit out of him, but I don't think we ever spoke to each other after that.

Yeah the bees were a pain but they didn't kill you right away. It was the god damn shopping cart lady. Hate that bitch. Also mutant league football was fun as hell. Me and my roomie always talk about how they should still make mutant league games.

Great anecdote!
I love the NHL 06 with the Genesis game option, me and my friends end up playing it more then the actual game.

I remember I bought one of the huge joystick gamepads for my genesis. And it was a heavy little fucker too, it was at least half-made of steel.
It had the buttons for turbo, and for slow, and lots of fancy shit.
I remember that I once rented some lame olympics game, and during the racing games I could just switch turbo on and cheat my way to victory
the Sonic games were just INSANE with turbo on, though. And on slow they were just... odd.
