Also, maybe there should be a rating (an extremely low rating) that you have to aquire before you can even post in the beginner forum. If you were limited to the search function for a little while, you'd find everything you needed. (Unless those newbie style questions dried up over time...) Most people just post their questions because it's less work than searching and they think "what's my little question about grinding brown rice going to hurt?". Maybe this has already been mentioned? (blahblahblah did in fact mention something like this.) I just jumped in here... (am I contributing to the plague?) heh That might cut down the repeat rate drastically on its own.

Thor What a great idea mate. Good ideas from everyone I can't wait to get involved and try Mushroom Cultivation. I know which section I would go for. ----------------------------------------- 1. Basic Mushroom Cultivation - For growers who are new to this hobby, if you've never grown before this is the forum for you. ---------------------------------------- Best of luck and I hope everyone will do the right thing and go with the flow.

I'm more partial to the forums by subject as opposed to the forums by experience...Certainly you should add an intermediate group, but The beginner's forum could just be broken down into forums dealing with the most frequently asked "newbie" questions. That way people can post their knowledge in specific forums instead of spending hours reading all of the day's new posts and responding to the one's they want to...It might help to get more people posting information and less people posting angry responses...

>but The beginner's forum could just be broken down into >forums dealing with the most frequently asked "newbie" >questions. How about a "Basic Cultivation FAQ", first question being "I?m totaly new to this whole thing, where should I start?", second: "Which cultivation method yields the most mushrooms?" and the third: "Which is more potent, stems or caps?"

Hey Thor what if u created an accts system, like u can't log onto certain mess boards unless ur acct is say 6 months old, then at like a year old u can log onto the advanced section, and so on i dunno but i do agree we neeed to improve on our community cause some people with wonderful ideas get bitched at and yelled at from jealous and frustrated people, thats not kewl ya know. BUT i definetly like the idea of a acct system! EAT ME!

MY 2 CENTS.....i think that having a casing and cake forum would really be beneficial. and just a thought but if people who have never cultivated before all post in one forum i think there would be too much temtation for them to double post in an intermediate forum for the sake of having their question answered by someone besides a person who also has never cultivated before. so if we do create a forum for beginners it will be up to the more experienced growers to frequent that forum in order to help the beginners or they will simply migrate to the intermediate forum and begin posting there. just my 2 cents!!

* [ The aspects of growing ] * Casing * Caking * Incubation * Fruiting * Picking * Taking prints * Drying * [ Advanced techniques ] * Agar transfers * Compost "fiddling" ( whatever :) ) * [ Recepies ] * Share cake recepies * Share casing substrate recepies * [ Sharing ] * Fruiting chamber ideas * Incubation ideas * Hide from mom ideas for all the newbies ;) * Pictures of progress I don't know, but splitting it up (something) like this has a couple of advantages. Go figure ;) zilch

Personally, I am partial to the forum by subject as well, with separation of experience. The whole Bassplayer concept i believe. The restriction on who can post where is a good idea too, but if some one in the beginner forum was having problems getting an answer to his / her question, maybe they could be given an option to request a post in a higher forum for response. This may be getting too complicated though. Hopefully, the higher ups would just check up on the kids.

Permanant F.A.Q. sticky top post of the cultivation forum. Make it just cover the 20 most comminly asked newbie questions. Then if they still ask a question that's up there, we say read the FAQ ASS!

Adding a new fourum sound like a good idea to me. I like the FAQ thing a lot too. There are SOOOOOOO many repeat posts that many experianced cultivators get sick of answering over and over again. People need to learn how two use the "SEARCH" function as well.

I think a link to a FAQ at the top of each forum is a great idea. I think a test to be able to enter specific forums is a bad idea mainly because it would be too hard to implement. It would also be a pain in the ass and it would cause people to go elsewhere. And I don't think you should make people wait 6 months or a year to access certain areas. Nobody would do that. What if someone who's already grown a few times finds these forums? Are we gonna make them wade through beginner forums for a year before they can move on to bigger and better things? I really don't think the forums should be labelled by skill level. I think as long as there is a comprehensive and updated FAQ at the top of each forum there won't be any more problems. And I think you should keep the "Search Before You Post" banner at the top of each forum as well. bassplayer74

The only problem I see is that to have a foroum forj ust Newbies isn't going to help them. If you have the knowledge that Newbies need, why would you be in that forum. Their questions would most likely go unanswered. I think were all here to learn but no one is specifically here to teach so my thoughts are that we must leave it as it is.

some of the cultivation questions make me wonder. did people grow prior to the internet. to make a long story short, read a book, research in silence, quit asking for easy answers and learn from alternate sources. ---wasted words already been heard---

There are many different teks, alot of conflitcing theories, and alot of alternative ways in the mycology field. We have alot of assholes fighting as it is. To break up according to experience, (ie. beginner, intermediate, advanced) will only cause more problems. I guarantee when someone disagrees, The words "maybe you belong in the beginner forum" will be said..... Thoes are insulting words, they look down on individuals, and it will cause more fighting than good.. Im all for the categories. (ie. substrate section, sterilization section, colonization section, tips n tricks section, and fruiting section) or something like that But mark my words "You belong in the beginner forum" Will be said but however it works out, ill still be reading
