Security camera in housing?
    #5191787 - 01/17/06 04:25 PM (18 years, 14 days ago)

AFOAF is moving out in 2 weeks, he will be living in a nice apt. He is the type to never really be home, he was wondering:

"is it odd to buy a security camera that mounts on the cieling. He would keep this in his apt and face it in the living room ,it records and relays all video to a small tv he will have in a location. He doesnt want things to become wierd with his landlord, but he doesnt want her coming in when hes not around."

Well, what do you think?

I dont think its weird, if your friend has the extra money,
and wants too see whats going on there. A lot of fucked up
baby sitters have been caught beating the shit out of the kids they
were suppose to be caring for, by the parents, and hidden cameras.

Couldn't tell from the description, but keep the camera hidden. Else you'll have snooping, plus a bunch of broken electronics to haul out to the trash.

snooping?
why do you think that?

this is the type of camera that you would see in a supermarket mounted towards the registers. its not too small, nor can it be hidden.

If you just want to set up a camera to record whatever is going on in the house use hidden cameras.

If you want whoever enters your house to go "oh crap he's got cameras in here let's run away" then get thoose huge ones. Or better yet spend about 5 dollars on the fake ones that just take a 9 volt battery to make the red light blink. They look real enough to scare people away. I just to work in a store that had a load of fake cameras and only about 2 or 3 real ones. The rest were just for the "oh god we'll never be able to rob this place" factor.

So it really depends on what you want to do. Video baby monitors are pretty cheap and that's the sort of thing you could find in the classified adds of your newspaper.

Someday I will own a house that looks like a giant mushroom, it will be furnished with only bean bag furniture. My walls will be covered with tye-dyed tapestries and my doors will be plastered in stickers. When it comes time for me to retire, I will launch pumpkins at the airport with a crude catapult. THEY WILL NEVER TAKE ME ALIVE!

Don't shit on my dream.

You should think about getting a Panasonic Wireless 802.11 b/g Network Camera

Good Luck,
