consciousness in dreams
    #5210246 - 01/22/06 12:58 PM (18 years, 2 months ago)

Sometimes when i'm between the state of being awake and being asleep,
i find that i tend to have vague visions of what ever crosses my mind. The thoughts are random, but sometimes if a car or some object comes into my head i find that i can "see" it. Not to say that i can see a shiny, detailed car in all its glory, but i have a mental image of the object; which is akin to actually "seeing" a car that is there. This is involuntary and if i become aware of this i snap back to a fully conscious/awake state.

Do you think it is possible to "find yourself" during a dream and become fully conscious of what is going on? It's a strange thought that has come to me at times. Can you imagine being able to walk around at will in inside one of your own fabrications!

Yes. It's called Lucid Dreaming.
It's when you realize you are dreaming and take control of it without waking up.

Is it rare? I remember watching something on this before and there was someguy who claimed that he could train people to enter this state

It is not as rare as you might think. Some people do it regularly. Some people do it almost every day.
You can do it too.

Here's a great site:

http://www.lucidity.com/

I trained myself to lucid dream using LaBerge's techniques.

Cool, this is interesting to say the least!

"Here on LD4all you will learn how to become aware of the dreaming state so you can take control of your dreams. You will also find more background information on the phenomenon lucid dreaming, as well as things to do while lucid."

I can think of a few things i'd like to do.... :strokebeard:

I get short sequences and jump cuts to related sequences.
I get replayed sequences with some changes.
still it is not exactly like control.
more like watching the rushes and considering what to reshoot with adjustments.
then watching the result of that.
also it is not just vision - it is a complete VR body suit

In my two most vivid lucid dreaming experiences, I awoke within the dream to the knowledge that I was dreaming, and immediately thought "I can do anything I want to do!"

In the first such experience, I chose to fly over the ocean, watching, hearing and feeling the crash of the waves on the shoreline.

In the second, I chose to have passionate sex.

Both experiences were multi-sensory, detailed & intense.

another good site

www.dreamviews.com

lucid dreaming also opens up possibilties that most people would not think of, if you recall einstein proved mathematically that time is an illusion only caused by change of the physical, and dreams are only somewhat physical

its possible to spend aeons in a dream that only lasted 3 hours in this world (that takes a degree of practic) or one can use their lucidity in dreams to obtain lucidity in the astral and have oobe's at will

Yeah..

think about this..

you fall asleep, you get lucid.. you go wild.. you live for eons.. say 379247years.. in your perfect state of mind.. (knowing it) ..
then you get tired, or long back to the/THIS reality, etc ..

you decid to wake up.. and.. well.. it has been 379247years.. (living on a perfect earth)
So, to not have the memories of that confused with this, you chose to forget all about it.. thus waking up, like you just woke up, from falling asleep, last nigh..

what if we all did this,.. knowing we can return at wish (falling asleep, tripping out, etc..) ..

:crazy2:

I have only the same amount of control in my real life as I do in my dreams:

experience
error
reprieve
take 2
continue

I eagerly await the day that comes when we can record our dreams on DVD and replay them on TV/PC.

I've been trying to lucid dream for a week or so...hahaha. I can't wait for my first one.

--------------------
I suddenly became strangely inebriated. The external world
became changed as in a dream. Objects appeared to gain inrelief;
they assumed unusual dimensions; and colors became more glowing.
Even self-perception and the sense of time were changed. When the
eyes were closed, colored pictures flashed past in a quickly changing
kaleidoscope. After a few hours, the not unpleasant inebriation,
which had been experienced whilst I was fully conscious, disappeared.
what had caused this condition?

two lucid dreams happenned last night
(spicy sausges?? problems at work?? impending house move??)

in one, I was talking with the real estate agent (fem) and the owner (m) of an apartment (a new stacked townhouse upper unit) which we are soon renting, and they were showing me a brochure from when it was purchased with a reversed floor plan and an artist rendering of the front view also reversed left to right. While still in the ordinary dream I was looking at the rendering and noticed that it extended leftward and there it did show the correct orientation of the very one we are renting.
next I was looking at the picture and it was getting much enlarged and I could see 3-d furniture on both balconies (not our furniture).
Then I thought this is too real and this is a dream, and then I was able to float into the picture and raise and lower my vantage point like a dragonfly.

in a later dream, the same night, someone's face also shifted form a character in a dream to a scene that was explorable.
