Most don't do it because you can spawn it into three or more times the amount of horse manure and drastically increase your harvest.

If you want to case plain berries, dump them into your tray and even them out. A 1" layer works well. Cover with aluminum foil and set on a shelf for three days or so until the mycelium has knitted itself back together. Add 1/2" layer of pasteurized casing material and cover again with foil. Let that sit for a week or so until the casing layer is 2/3 or so colonized. Remove the foil and expose to fruiting conditions.

Peat/verm in a 50/50 mix. Add a tablespoon of hydrated lime for each two cups of peat. Bring to field moisture capacity or slightly higher and pasteurize. Bear in mind, I gave the abridged version above. You still need to do a bit of research on casing preparation, patching if desired, etc.

i'm doing rye berries at the moment.i have 1 quart jar uncubating, i'll use that for a grain to grain transfer when it's done. Then i'll take whats left and make my very first casing, while the rest is colonizing.

I'll also be using the 50/50+ casing tek.

RR, you say i should use a 1" spawn layer when casing strait?

you can use coir verm straight out of the bag. but rogerabbit didn't mention any thing about useing a pc to do any thing with caseings. It seems as if rogerrabbit is a professional and you might benifit from reading his posts. he use's a silghtly differant 50/50 version that agar it would apear. but 50/50 seems 31337.

people use it to kill small patches of the gang green gang that the invited to grow on their cakes/caseings/bulk but so long as you dont allow any mold spores into your house then you should be fine and wont need that.
