Drenched in Sweat

So you're out wherever you are, and it's cold. You decide.. damn it's cold.. I'm going into my tent and crawling into my warm sleeping bag. So you crawl into your warm sleeping bag.. so nice and snuggly and warm. This is usually how my nights begin. Then when I wake up, drenched in sweat, along with the inside of my sleeping bag.. this majorly sucks. Especially since I have a down bag, I am seriously reconsidering that purchase.
What to do about this? Granted I probably shouldn't be using a 20 degree down bag, year round.. but in the warmer months I just drape it over me like a blanket, so there's room for air to get in and whatnot. But I use a regular sleeping bag to sleep with (on my bed) and I have this same problem.. waking up wet almost every day. It sucks. I'm cold at night, so I get warm.. and I wake up drenched in sweat. Anyone have a solution to this problem?

get a fleece bag liner - they have started selling them as summer bags or cold weather sleeping bag liners
adding it in warm weather probaly won't help you stop sweating so much as it will simple keep you dryer due to the wicking properties of fleece
in warm weather the liner will be all the bag you need anyway

fleece doesnt really wick away the moisture, it just dries faster....in myt bag I always keep my feet out of it.... that seems to keep me from sweating too much.

when something dries faster, it creates a wicking effect on the moisture below
thats why you stay dry in fleece and thats why it does have wicking properties
What exactly is fleece anyway? Fleece is basically a synthetic, 100% polyester fabric with an altered 'structure.' This altered 'structure' facilitates moisture transfer through the fabric - some will say 'absorb' through the fabric. Polyester fabric, in and of itself, does not absorb moisture at all.. Instead fleece wicks moisture away from the skin to its outer surface where it can do one of two things:
Spread out and evaporate if exposed to air. Absorb into another fabric-usually a cotton 'soaker' of some sort.
What are fleece's wonderful qualities? Attributes of fleece that are often promoted are that fleece is:
Highly breathable. Lightweight (though it can be purchased in mid weight) Pill-resistant. Hardy and can withstand industrial washing/drying Virtually stain-proof. Easy to care for and clean. Great for color retention.. A fast drying fabric. Chlorine-resistant. VERY SOFT and COMFY!
Why fleece instead of just cotton or wool? First, even though both Wool and Cotton are porous, they will still absorb and 'hold' water.
Cotton NEVER wicks when wet. Cotton absorbs moisture and has absolutely NO wicking properties. So, this means that once cotton becomes wet or saturated it will STAY WET.
Okay, so why not WOOL then? First, it is heavier in weight than fleece and therefore, takes longer to dry. AND it absorbs the moisture, instead of wicking the moisture to the exterior surface or to an inner 'soaker' (as fleece does), so the moisture does not get as much opportunity to evaporate dry.
Cotton, as we said before, will NEVER wick when it gets wet. Because cotton gets wet and stays wet, it sticks to skin and this hinders the evaporation process of moisture transfer. Evaporation of moisture is important to keep your temperature at an appropriate level - keeping you cool.
The Micro Fibers in Fleece allow for the cooling process by 'wicking' sweat away from the skin.
Is there a difference in fleece products? Absolutely! Do not be fooled into thinking that all fleece is the same - it is not. A good fleece to look for is called Polar Fleece. Polar Fleece is a high quality performance fabric first developed by Malden Mills in the 1970s. Several companies make Polar Fleece now, but be certain that you are getting quality - there are lesser quality varieties that won't work as well.
Fleece functions much like wool, in that it is breathable and it wicks, but it does not have the added bulk, weightiness, is easier to care for and clean and is much more soft and comfy.

thats good and all, but adding another liner makes it hotter- thus you sweat more.... the fleece liner I had would just stay soaked untill the morning.

yeah, thats what I said in the first post - duh ralphy
doesn't change the fact that fleece is just about the best "WICKING" material out there

Hmm.. I was thinking about getting a fleece liner of some sort.... that might help.
Thing is I have a mummy bag.. so I can't exactly stick my feet out of the bottom.. unless I fully unzip it.. so yeah.

eating a high protein food right before bed can raise your metabolism and may cause you to sweat more while sleeping. this can help if you wake up cold and want to go back to sleep..say cheese or jerky
thus i say fill you bag with ice and starve yourself

ya I think I read that somewhere.. one of those survival tricks.. to eat lots of food before going to bed so your body produces more heat when you sleep. The metabolization process makes heat or something. Sucks for me though, since I always eat my biggest meals of the day late at night.

Eating before bed also decreases the quality of sleep.
There's a material out there called CoolMax, which is a blend of various fibers like nylon and polyester. It adds around 9 degrees F of warmth and wicks very well (don't know how it compares to fleece).
Maybe you could try getting in the bag and warming up before you fall asleep (read or something), then unzipping it, but not taking it off of you, with a liner on. That way air will be allowed to circulate through the bag, but not much, and you shouldn't get too cold because of the liner.
I had the same problem at the first gathering here, the sun would shine in through my rainfly and my tent would become like a greenhouse.
