I remember Nick Cave talking in a speech about a friend of his suffering from a psychological disorder referred to as erotic grafomania. The guy had sent over 600 love letters to his wife over a period of less than 2 years. He admits that he cannot help it and that he is suffering. I reckon he should be stomped with psych meds and shut the fuck up instead of being madly in love and sickly creative.

(edit - correction: it is 7000 love letters over 5 years)

If he is content with his disorder, then he would not say that he is "suffering." I do not believe in medicating mental illness, but I would highly recommend he seek counseling with a therapist skilled in Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy techniques. In a few months, he could learn to challenge the irrational beliefs which are driving his obsessive behavior, and regain "ownership" of his life and actions.

He would still be free to be "madly" in love with his wife, but could express it through actions of his own choosing, instead of compulsive acts which eat up his time and over which he suffers.

There's no such thing as "normal," just varying degrees of ability to enjoy life.

If the man in your example had said that he was enjoying his life, and he was not infringing on anyone elses' rights with his actions, I would say he did not need therapy.

Since he said he was suffering, I believe that he would like more freedom of choice in his actions.  IMO, the best way to get free is to understand the mechanisms with which you are imprisoning yourself.

That's a personal choice.

I prefer to enjoy my life as much as I can, and to work on the issues which interfere with my ability to enjoy being alive.

Perhaps someone else would prefer to be mentally ill, and would see their suffering and confusion as special qualities which set them apart from others.

It seems to me that most of us are suffering and confused, though, so it is hardly "special."  If anything, it's average.  I see it as far more "inordinate" to be genuinely happy.

perhaps evolution is heading to more separation. "This works only there, and that is only here and those are..."
Haven't we separated yet, like the big bang, condensing out all possible (and impossible), true (and untrue), existing (an inexisting) stuff, relevant to ocasions, places and relations ?

Its getting colder folks...

(only one possibility...out of two or three or... (?))

No...its entopy. Unless we have an iridium rainstorm with meteors showering us with lint and dust to block out the sun and such, we will not become more whole. Life always grows more complex. However, the possibility of man killing off everything IS possible.
