H. capnoides is the "Chestnut cap", and H. sublateritum is the "Brick Cap". They are very similar in habitat, growth, and appearance. I grow them both on alder chip beds like SRA.

"Smokey Gilled Wood Lover" is the only common name I am familiar with for that species.

Yeah, that's one of Paul Stamets "trade" names. He's a true innovator in the field of mushroom cultivation, but he's a little too protective of his information & ideas for my taste. He trademarked the name "Garden Giant" to describe S. rugosoannulata, and his most recent book, Mycelium Running, was delayed from publication so that his most recent patent could be filed, one that manages to cover nearly every idea in the book (not so sure how it could be enforced, but there you go.)
Patent
There is (or I have) perhaps more confusion about the names of these two species than I suggested earlier. If you look here: web page You will see both "cinnamon cap" and "chestnut cap" mushrooms depicted.
I believe that the Cinnamon cap or Brick cap is H. sublateritum, but now I'm not sure if H. capnoides and the Chestnut cap are the same. It's possible that it is an unknown Pholiota species instead. If so, then "smokey gilled woodlover" is the only common name there is after all.
I'll need to fruit my putative H. capnoides again soon to figure out what I really have. I cloned a store-bought mushroom a few years ago, and I haven't seen it for sale since.

"chestnut" and "cinnnamon cap" are also common names used for Pholiota Adiposa.

That looks like my mystery "Chestnut cap" mushroom indeed. Thanks for the info.
"Cinnamon cap" is clearly not as specific, since even Paul Stamets uses that name for H. sublateritum.
