bulk BRF, oven bags and the PC

Here is the start of my bulk adventure. The cakes are BRF( 9c vermiculite, 4c water, 4c BRF, 2Tlbs cornmeal, 2 Tlbs unsweetened coconut, 2 Tlbs flax seed, 2Tlbs bee pollen and 2Tsp yeast). This is loaded into an oven bag and then into a pp5 gallon container. This is pressure cooked at 15 psi for 120 minutes. The cooked bags were then inoculated with 40cc liquid culture of KSSS. Each weigh about 4.5 lbs. [image]http:// [/image] [image]http:// [/image]

i dont think BRF was the best choice as a bulk substrate, either as spawn or as a whole cake.

I used this recipe mostly because I have a ton of vermiculite. The additives were in a recipe posted by hippie on mycotopia and should add some micro nutrients. With 40cc LC I am hoping it will colonize quickly plus in the oven bag it should be easy to mix.

it is my experience that when using brf large doesn't work. the mean green really likes brf and so in short its a race to get to 100% colonization before the green mean spores get in and it will get in eventually nothing u can do. i keep it to pint and half pint jars. and i only use full pint jars becuase i don't have that many halfers. there is the same amount of substrate in two lalf pints and one full pint. a half pint jar cononizes faster then a full pint. so id much rather do twice as many jars and have less waiting. and less risk of the green getting a hold. my 2.1 cents (2 cents candian)

it's great to see that the LC you made worked out... (no doubts on that)
but i don't know about that substrate.... but i would like to see more pics to the end... GL! Enjoy the spores
ps.) i like how you placed those bags inside the pp5 containers... good idea.
IMHO - u should do 2 more bags of WBS and watch them together.

Looks interesting.
I am curious about those bags though, I don't see any filter patch or injection spot. You just use a oven bag and a twisty tie?

It is just an oven bag closed with the supplied zip strip. I inoculated through the top. Once it starts to colonize I'll add a homemade filter patch made of a HEPA filter and double sided tape.

I just inoculated 12 brf pint jars with Hawaiian cubensis and Costa Rica. The Costa Ricans contamed, prolly because I had used some left over flour from last batch. After a week, 2 of the 6 pint Hawaiians show very very minimal mycelium growth, like couple dots. I dunno what I could've done wrong. Everything seemed to be right. I've never done brf pints, only halfs, and those worked out good.
