Soaking wheat straw before pasturization

If you're supposed to soak wheat straw in water for 12 or so hours before you pasturize it can you soak it in the water in a pasta pot with the built in strainer and then pasturize directly in that water or would you have to change the water?

Actually the straw is soaked during the pasteurisation, no need to presoak.

No need to strain it or to change the water untill it's done soaking.

Most methods site useing a pillow case to hold the straw as well.
