Odd Growth Patterns with Golden Teachers VS B+

I am new to shrooming and growing. I inoculated 21 half pint jars about five days ago, and at day three I began to see white mycelium in my jars with the B+ strain. I did not see any white in the jars with Golden Teacher Strain. Now at day five the B+ strain has literally tripled in diameter, while only two of ten Gold Teacher jars have a "tiny" speck of white mycelium present. I have all the jars face down, at 84 degrees w/98%+ humidity, and they can breath. I made sure the jars sat for a few days before inoculation, so the spores would not be destroyed by heat. Is there a problem with the eight jars with no sign of growth at the five day mark, or does the Gold Teacher take more time to begin its growth cycle?
Thanks, Kuhl

Try bringing your temp down to 80-82. I've been told mycelium generates its own heat; itd be good to give it a 2degree buffer.
Also you dont need humidity when incubating. They are in the dark, correct?

One thing - if you packed your jars too tight it can really slow the growth. You may have not done it intentionally, but I have certainly packed a little too much when applying the dry verm layer.... My advice? Switch to WBS, quart jars, and poo, for around the same price you'll get far better yields!

Yes they are in the complete darkness. I will turn down the heat a bit. I did have a feeling I put too much verm. in the jars. Will these jars still grow, but just at a slower rate?

^They should, but I can't say for sure. Any pics? By the way, I've always found GT to be a very slow colonizing strain....YMMV.....

I don't have a digital camera right now. I will post some pics soon. My set up is identical to "two rubermade" container set up in the FAQ. I just don't have a fully submersable heater, and my inner most container is smaller--It only hold about 25 jars max.

Take that humidity away ASAP..i did that once by accident and it initiated pinning for some reason..without light ..i had a pin on about a quarter sized spec of myc..GL

Different strains colonize at different speeds. They also have their own Ideal temp. From my experience B+ colonizes very quickly, I can get a fully colonized quart jar of WBS, inoculated with LC in about 8-9 days.

I can't take away the humidity because my chamber is simply a plastic box under water. (the jars and cakes remain dry, but the heat causes it to be humid--I think)

I'm not sure where u got your spores from, but when I bought my golden teacher syringe I noticed that the spores were quite large and all bunched up in the center. I had to shake the syringe REALLY hard just to spread them out. I only inoculated five jars but only two of them grew myc. I think some of the spores were even to big to fit threw the needle, but when I got my B+ I could barely see the spores and they were obviously more evenly distributed throughout the syringe. This probably didn't happen to you, but it's still a possibility.

um spores are so small u can't see them if u see a dark thing its 1000's of spores in a clump. u can push them out of the needle dont' worry. think of the 100's of 1000's of pounds of pressure from a syringe. beucase of teh tiny needle diameter.
also: humidity is a bigger trigger then light. so watch out for invetro pinning in your jars with high humidity you have.

Actually, my B+ and G.T. were both just a huge clump of spores in the middle of the syringe until I shook them up. My B+ have been doing quite well, but only a few of the G.T. are showing any growth (very little).

Yep. My GT's took forever to get started. Almost twice as long as my B+, and 3 TIMES as long as my EQ. IMHO, spores can generally take a week or so just to germinate, especially if they are old, or have been stored in a cold environment for an extended period of time (a vendor's refridgerator). Be patient. Try different strains until you find what's right for you. Sometimes the slowest colonizers are the best fruiters. Move up to WBS spawned to h/poo, and don't forget to try LC (liquid cultures). They cut your colonization times in half (or less).

Everything is great now. The B+ are cruzing. Holy smokes, I can't imagine them taking more than a few days to completely colonize at the rate they're going. The G.T. are starting to colonize, but a slower rate. The growth it just like in the pictures with a weird pattern that is good. The temp is still 84 degrees. I noticed it went up a degree or two, and now the growth is crazy fast. In a few hours there is a change!!!

How long did it take before you saw anything colonize with the G.T. I've had 12 jars incubating for about 5 days and nothins goin on. It's killin me but I expected some failure it's my first grow. I just thought i'ld get to see a little fuzzy white.
