do you guys know of any good free ones, I am having a problem with my windows explorer not responding when im browsing through my files, and i read somewhere this could be the problem. If not does any one know what else it could be? Plus i feel my registry needs to be cleaned out anyways, so any would be good, free is better, but i can shell out a little dough if i need to.
thanks

I like newfs myself... gets rid of all those pesky Microsoft problems and leaves you with a nice clean unix file system... lots of free versions to choose from, BSD (open, free, net), Linux, Solaris x86, etc...

Haha you damn Nixheads and your proselytizing. If your OS is so great, why do you store all your settings in human-readable text files instead of a giant convoluted pseudo database? Huh? Huh? Yeah that's what I thought.
Supra, in my experience registry cleaners don't really do much except mess up your computer in new and interesting ways. Make sure your system isn't trying to connect to any non-existent network resources (check Network Neighborhood and Printers). If you want to go ahead though, I'd recommend the Registry Fixer in V-Com's Fix-It Utilities. If that doesn't work, try booting to your Windows CD and select the "repair" option.
Hope this helps,

It could be that your file system is fragmented.
"There's a simple solution to file fragmentation: use Windows Disk Defragmenter (Start ?> Programs ?> Accessories ?> System Tools ?> Disk Defragmenter). This utility, commonly called Defrag, gathers all the scattered file fragments and writes them into adjacent clusters, so each file occupies a contiguous section of the disk."

When something seems downright broken it simply cannot hurt to pop in the XP install cd, goto command line and type "sfc /scannow". this utility will replace any corrupted system files with the correct M$ file. always worth a try.
