Possible Ganoderma substrates? taiwan woods...
    #5185925 - 01/16/06 01:27 AM (18 years, 4 months ago)

I'm having a hard time finding english names of the trees that live here. However 2 i do know are coconut and betel nut.

Are palm trees, those 2 namely, a worth while wood to use? this isnt for experiment sake, its more for convenience sake as teh 2 are extrememly common in this village and when they blow over the farmers often just let them rot on teh side or burn them.

Once i get some names id like to ask about a couple others. My main concern is for edible purpouses not for fast growing. these mushrooms will be sold so i do not want them to contain toxins, or to be of bad quality. also a little worried about fertilizers, but i know some farms that are fairly organic.

the only thing i have read is to stay away from woods that have scents, conifers (oils) and camphor producing plants.

thansk for any help )

Conifers(trees that produce cones) are fine. Pine is to be avoided due to oils, but several species of Ganoderma grow on Douglas Fir, a conifer. If you any have hardwood trees in your area, try one of them. Reishi isn't too picky. It wants to grow.
