adding new harddrive, how should i partition

im adding a second 160GB harddrive to my computer. The OS is Windows XP pro on an 80GB harddrive and it is just one big partition. My questions are how i should set up this second for storage and in what ways, like should i make the new hdd the slave of the 80GB? Or should i run them both as masters. I do a lot of dvd burning and have the dvd burners as primary and slave on secondary IDE, the 80GB is master on primary, what would be the best setup?
Aslo, how should i partition the 160GB, it is for storage only, like all my mp3's, music videos, files, torrents, and what nots.
thanks

If I were you I'd set up the drive as a slave with your other HD. Putting it on the same channel as your optical drive could limit it to ATA33 or 66. I recommend you just make one big NTFS partition. You can always change it later with a program like Partition Magic.

ubuntu is popular but its basicly a secure windows (you use its tools, which are buggy if you want to do more complicated things, and I still can't get over its modifications to ps). I would suggest frugalware, I recently tried it out and it was quite nice, but you need more experience to set everything up (also pacman is one sexy package manager). If you want faster running linux but you dont want to take the time to set up a bootstrapped gentoo Lunar and Sorcer Mage (and its derrivitives) have caought my eye as being pretty good, but yet again it will take more experience.

i dont have a 64 bit processor, isn't vista only for 64bit?
also, i want to use something that will help me 'catch on' to the use of linux, i am a CS major at my local college, so i am pretty good with computers and all, but just want something to learn linux with, i use a UNIX server at school all the time, and am used to using the command line. Thanks for all the help guys, but i still need to figure out a few more things before i get this going. Any more help would be appreciated. I am going to looke up this Reiser4 shit and see what the deal is, but anyways, any more help/suggestions would be great.
thanks guys

use part of the 80GB hard drive for your OS's and part for storage. use the other solely for storage.
first install windows on a 10-15 gig NTFS partition. then install ubuntu on a 10-15 GB reiserfs or ext3 partition. the ubuntu installer should recognize windows and can write a bootloader to your MBR that will allow a dual boot. during the install, format the rest of the 80GB drive as FAT32. format the 160GB as FAT32 as well.
windows and linux can both read and write to FAT32 without difficulty. linux support for NTFS is experimental and read-only at this time, and windows cannot read or write to linux partitions. ubuntu is a debian based distro that i feel is one of the best for the average user on a desktop.
this is how i understand it. someone please correct me if any of this is wrong.
