i always go an hour and 15...if you want to take the risk be my guest, but ask yourself if its worth losing half your jars to mold. whats another 30 on the stove?

depends on the heat and pressure inside. point of sterilizing is to kill the germs and contaminates. that can be done in 20 minutes if the heats right. but you also dont want to heat too much incase the substrate crystalizes. just make sure nothing can continue to survive in the jars before taking them out.

what kind of substrate did you use? and i think i might have to experiment. 250 degree for 30 mins should be enough to kill bacteria, and im only talking pf tek.

I'll answer this question the same way I have the last 10 times it's appeared on the board. 30 minutes is completely and totally adequate to kill bacteria in BRF. I make alot of jars, so I can test different batches of spore syringes. In fact, I just made 40 more jars last night, and boiled them all for 30 minutes. I have a PC, I just don't see the need to use it with BRF. Here is an updated Grow log of jars of BRF that have been BOILED FOR 30 MINUTES Peace.

When I started with cultivation and used the PF-tek I sterilized the jars for 40 minutes like the tek suggested. I ran into problems, bacterial contamination and green mold after 5 days, even on the test jars I left uninoculated. 1 hour gave me near success, 90 minutes might be an overkill but it won?t harm the substrate. If you look at the PF-tek at the fanaticus.com site, even PF now recomends steaming the jars for 1 full hour. Since I?m using a pressure cooker I PC the jars for 45 min at 15 psi.

"normally I steam them for an hour," you say. It depends on if by steam you mean covered in a pot with a tight fitting lid, or pressure cook. As Fresh said, what's another 30 minutes. I pressure cook my PF Substrate for 1 hour. I've never had any problems with it "overcooking." Why take a chance and undercook when an hour will be of no detriment? From general board concensus it seems that 45 min's in a pc is enough, and when steaming, and hour is enough. There seems to be no "overkill" here. So I'd stick to a minimum of 45 in a pc, an hour in a pot.

hey you guys, the popular consensus seems to be for an hour or 45 minutes. keep in mind, that im using brf only, and im steaming (afraid of pc's lol) so my dilema here since everyone has there own opinions, will be to do 5 for 30 and the other 5 for an hour. thanx guys for your input. I pressure cook for 1 hour. My first 2 batch's of Jars did GREAT!!! My third batch...I messed up....I relieved the pressure Valve on my pressure cooker....and i think it sucked out all the moisture out of the jars. I got 3 different types of mold.... Oh well.....live and learn. Redoing my GC's tonight....i had extra syringes...Thank God.
