Do internaional parcels get x-rayed?

If a package is entering the USA by air mail I know customs can randomly search it. But does it get x-rayed as a standard security procedure?

I ordered a hookah from egypt right around 911 andit got opened. Not to sure about the x-ray thing though. I would assume that they do do x-rays though. All they would need is one of those devices they have at the airport.

I highly doubt it.
If they do, they let ALOT of shit slide
Which would pretty much defeat the point of doing it
