will this substrate work?

my wookie friend has lots of sugar cane growing in his backyard that wont be used for nothing. is it possible to make a substrate out of leafs (blades) or the fibrous stem? or maybe use it as an add on on another kind of substrate? sorry if it sounds lame. its my wookie's fault. thanks.

I don't know about using it as a substrate.

But....the fiberous stem might work in your casing.
Coco fiber works....maybe cane fiber would too.

Anyone ?
