ive had enough
    #516900 - 01/10/02 10:57 PM (23 years, 2 months ago)

i dont really know how to start off, but im a sophmore in high school, and fairly miserable. I am unhappy about what the rest of my life looks like. I could die in the mornings before school, and remain tired and pissed for most of the rest of the day and know that there will be many years of this to follow. But i know that i could go nowhere without getting into college so i manage to get d's and c's. Aside from school my life is pretty good. I had always thought of living in a place with complete freedome and no responsibilities. Recently a friend suggested that we take my moms credit card and order some plane tickets to a island and never come back, or at least for several years. i coudnt have had a smarter or better person to be accompanied by in a friend ben and there is another kid who is also smart and will be of some use, he is brandon. Now these two kids situations are much worse than mine. brandon got busted at school for herbs last year and ruined his education and doesnt care because everything sucks so bad to him, and as for ben, he was raised by the most perfect man i hve met and he is also, but he knows that all too well. which i believe is the cause of his deep depression and anger. He has recently sliced carved hate over his whole bisep with a dagger, and he is on depression pills which have only changed his sadness to anger, which is hurt or fear, what all three of us experience regularly. He has given up on school and only shows up because he doesnt have enough money to pay for the truency fines he will recieve for not going. So that is our situation, we could order the tickets off the internet to bens house, and we could get several hundred dollars, which i hope, will almost be invalueable in a third world island. Our parents must not know, at least mine. (of course i will leave a letter and shit). im going to look at our choices of islands, which must be english speaking and have weak and barely enforced laws, where we will be able to live in a little shack peacefully. will staying in the country be a problem or will we have to be a citizen and shit. can i get a passport and all the crap for the plane without my mom finding out? we would appreciate advice beyond saying that this is a rediculous idea. keep in mind, that at the moment this sounds like a good idea to us(although it may not be for long) advice will be much appreciated. thankyou

I think you have to be 18 to be qualifies for a passport. But most definitlely, it is a good idea. Just take a couple dollars, in afghanistan the currency exchange is like 1000 to 1, that is the best option for those with few money. You might want to consider Cape Verde, i hear that is the best place for teenage runaways who want to escape u.s. law enforcement.

Running away to an island wouldn't solve your problems, merely displace them.

You'll still find hardships (I'm tempted to say even stronger hardships than the ones you face today) in a new world; the same old emotions will still plague you, just with different faces. The best solution is to stay in school and benefit from a good education. If you compare and contrast those who have and have not stayed in school, you'll find more often than not that the ones who have stayed in school are much more mentally tempered. We've all had times where the only way out seems like running away or worse, but look at it this way... you're only 15-17 years old (however old you are). You still have (assuming extreme circumstances don't intervene) many more years to live your life. There are many other people who endure much more hardship than you or I, and many of them have the strength to keep living. The only solution to your problems is acceptance and intelligent resolution.

Goddamnit KID why do you have to be such a dick. This guy is obviously having probs, I know you can act civil, lets try huh.
I think it's a good Idea bro. I've had notions like this before, Im actually making mine reality though. You can't just take off without some money though. You and your 2 friends should work hard for 6 months or so and save all your money. Then go down to mexico, buy a capucha monkey and walk up and down the beaches in resort towns and sell pictures of your monkey with tourists for 5 bucks a peice. Just beach bumb it for a while, I know friends who do it all winter, then come back and work during the summer. They only work for 3 months and then beach bumb it for 8-9. Sounds like the life for me. You can get mexicans to bring you cold beer on the beach for 50cents. Im going another route though, Im goign down to Australia and am going to backpack everywhere. In mexico the exchange rate is so good you would only need a thousand dollars or so to live pretty good for a good while, even more if you sleep on the beach and dont waste your money on bullshit. I dont see why you couldnt do it, it's certainly within your reach, do it man, live your life to the fullest.

Hey, I'm in more or less the same boat as you, except I have saved up some cash so I won't have to rip off my mom. Which wouldn't be too cool. Maybe your parents have a bunch of money? I don't know.

Anyhow, if you wouldn't mind could you let me know if you find anything good? LIke a good place to go or maybe a website with some good info? I have been looking off and on for quite awhile but haven't really found much to go on, maybe I'm just nervous and it's a subconscious thing. ; )

Well, good luck. Maybe I'll see you in some paradise. : )

Yeah I forgot, don't steal from your parents. You should have to earn your "FREEDOM", I have no doubt you will.

Hairs,

Whatever you decide to do-I wouldn't suggest ripping off your mom-or running away.

Some of the other posts have already given you some alternatives to hitting the road as a crimminal. I sure wouldn't want to start a new life "looking over my shoulder" thinking that the cops are going to grab me at any second.

I have to ask you this though --- Dude --- Did something bad happen to you lately? Was it maybe one big thing or maybe several small things that piled up and got to you?

If something ( or several somethings ) happened to you, you should clear up and work through the problem first. If you try to run say from problems with your parents, you might end up getting locked up or in some juvenile home and things could be worse than what you're dealing with now.

Believe me, no matter how bad things are now---they could get worse---especially if you're "on the run". I would really think it all through and solve any problems before you think about "hitting the road".

There will be time to "follow your dreams"---but don't be a crimminal and don't think you can just "out run" your problems.
If you want to get out---work hard and plan what you want in life and then go for it. I would also finish high school first. It's hard to find a decent job without a diploma.

Let me know what you decide either by posting it or send me a private message. .....Tannis

Listen to me and pay attention, because I have been there.
I am 35 now so I know what you are going throe.
When I was your age I was about to do something similar back then I use to call it "living like Kung Fu" if you seen the old TV show you will understand.
But be smart you are just beginning to live, however bad it seems now things change.
Have a game plan of what you want to do and go ahead with small steps, If you don't know what to do, don't get depress experiment with different things and one day you will find out.
(I did not know until I was 30) I live in a cabin in the woods I am almost financially free, I have time to do what ever I want, and I am having a blast.
Few things to remember.
Live life
Have as many relations as u can (you will learn a lot)
Don't get in debt, again DON'T get in DEBT!
Save now and learn to live below the average person.
Every thing is an illusion change your perception of things look at life just as a game that you are playing.
Try every thing but don?t abuse nothing
And yes take it easy he.
It is working for me just give it time.
I hope this helps you.

I love this concept/idea.  I'm inspired.

Peace, and good luck to the guy who started this thread.

Bad idea, as was said above, you can't solve your problems by running, if you really want to go somewhere else, try waiting until your 18.

But, if you really want to go, and you've already made up your mind, and nothing I say will change your mind, just don't do anything you'll regret (read: Don't rip off your mom unless your sure you will never have any regrets about it, whether it's because you have NO conscience, or because your mom's the meanest bitch in the world (make DAMN SURE she is, if you choose this reason)).

Lots of people run from many things, <>

Yeah hairs i think it would be a better idea to wait till your 18 and are legally able to leave the household. If you want to make it in another country you are gonna need a passport, and money. So start saving now. You've got the internet so use it as a tool to find a good island to go to. One with a low economy so the US bucks will last longer.

I would love to do the same thing. If you arent going to live in society, you are going to need water so build your hut near a nice clean river or waterfall. Hey you mind as well grow your own food. Get some seeds from the store before you go. Two uses for the food you grow... you can either eat it or sell it. The perfect place would be also close to some kind of market, so you can buy your goods. Maybe some survival books would help ya too. I think it would be best if you had a good plan. Travel to these places first before you decide to stay. Best of luck.

Sounds like to me that you have already made the decision that youre life will continue to go downhill. As long as you are in this mode of negative thinking, the situation will be tough to turn around.

Try analyzing where these negative feelings are coming from. Could it be a fear that has been suppressed or not dealt with?

Start practicing projecting a more positive vibe and finding the good in things that appear to only be negative. In return, you will attract more positive entities that will help you to continue to change.

I have also found that thinking in a selfless manner can instill greater joy/love/happiness than any material iten can.

Just some stuff to chew on.

peace

Everything will be ok hairs. I'm sorry that life sucks for you right now.

Perhaps you should get into sprituality. Read Conversations with God. It will give you more of a purpose for your life.

Don't carve anything permanent into your body like your friend did by the way. He's going to "hate" himself 15 years down the road if it still shows up.

first of all, i would take the money out of my bank account, but since i am a minor i dont have access to it, i will simply let her know in a letter that all my money is hers(even though that isnt an issue to her)

Swank, you talked about new hardships, well those i would find acceptable because they involve survivng (if i dont get food i die, if i dont woop these mexicans theyll kill me, and so on), which i was put here to do, also why i find most everything unreasonable and unfair. my life isnt too bad except for knowing that school is just going to keep on coming and each morning is hell.
Archdruid, getting a job and shit would defeat the whole purpose of our quest, although, the idea of selling shit on the beach would rock.
LObo- i have considered the idea of living in a cabin, but that would be awfully lonely.
that sucks about the passport shit and not leaving till 18, but if the reason many of you suggest not to go before 18 is because of the law, well we dont care about that, the worst they would do is put us in a school where you only have to go half the day(which is the best thing that could happen to us)
also, would i be able to get to the country with no problems such as airport information and shit? help is still appreciated

The grass is always greener

Consider why there seems to be a ton more people trying to get INTO the states (ie escaping from their third world country) than there are people fleeing it.

Also another thing to consider: how many success stories have you heard that involve people running away at a young age to another country where they have no contacts, no relatives, etc.

Are you really up to the challenges of "just surviving"? What responsibilities do you think this entails? To give a worst case scenario, what if you're so poor you have to resort to say, theft or prostitution?

Just consider these in your mind.

OK i was in the same spot when i was 17 last year.
And it is partly because you are lazy
and to a major degree disallusioned.

IT is true, running away from your problems is NOT the solution. IF you cant deal with the shit your in what makes you think you will be able to in the future.
I came close to dropping out of school and just moving out into the wild as a hermit.

Luckily i regianed controll of myself and realized i want to master what troubles me.
Suffice to say in in my last year of school, doing well
i am going to get into University, and i have a sick job
and ive got a lot of shit planned for the future.

Suffice to say, if i ran away from my problems i would have ruined my life.
But hey its your life
At least do somethin interesting with it.
If your going to run away from home.
Leave a suicide note and something about a nearby river
that way they will give up looking for you.

Why not just take it to the next step
Just fucking commit suicide.

Quit feeling so sorry for yourself. Accept the fact that you are going to have to work your ass off in order to succeed.
