It's can be used so simply and it is such a good substrate just by itself:
a. Put brick of Coir into large pot b. Pour gallon of warm tap water into pot to rehydrate coir brick c. Let sit for 30-45 minutes, then stir it up good(break up chunks) d. Bring water to full boil, then pour it into a 5 gallon bucket, place lid on and let sit for at least 2 hours in a room that's at least room temp (this is pasteurizing our substrate) e. Spawn to it (I've heard 6 quart jars of WBS works great as spawn, but this is certainly adjustable), mix the spawn and coir well f. You could then either poor or scoop directly from the 5 gallon bucket to your fruiting trays,
(Be as sterile as possible, but don't go overboard as there seems to be no need for it. 6 quarts of spawn should colonize very quickly since its a high ratio compared to the amount of coir (maybe 1:2 ratio, just a guess)
Viola you have a lot of substrate!

It is if you live where it's easily available. For city dwellers, using coir is often a path of least resistance. You can get it at any pet shop. Where I live now, the nearest block of coir is over 100 miles away, but my neighbor's horses(it's open range, so they're free) are constantly hanging out in my yard eating spent straw logs, thus manure is free. It's all good. RR
