iv looked around a little, havnt found any answer to this
well alright so im a dumbass and when I was getting all my supplies and shit I got finer grade vermiculite.. so my shits colonizing really.. really.. really slow.. but its still movin along and doin kinda good just slowly.. my question is if my mycelium grows TO slow, when I take out the fully colonized cake will it still spawn? I figure the last stuff to colonize would for sure.. but will the mycelium eat up the nutrients over time??
by the way, im using BRF and yostirzii or whatever

Yeah fo sure htat shit will still spawn.. It's importnat when using a fine grade vermiculite to not pat down then substrate in to the jar.. the mycelium grows best when it's a fairly fluffy mix. There would be hardly any oxygen in a tightly packed jar for myc to use. Well good luck and don't be a fraid to try again!

You're fine. I've heard that longer colonization increases potency. I'd actually like to try to confirm that...
I used the fine grade on my most recent grow...fairly slow for me, too. Took about 2 months for a half pint jar to colonize. Definately gonna do 1/4 pint next time. Probably even a different substrate cause yeah...it's slow.

Just try grains - this is wild bird seed after 5 days innocculated with a Liquid Culture -

And now after 7 days -

I always have virtually the same result - thats a fair few more mushrooms coming your way than if you had to wait 2 months for your jars to colonise.

Ah great thanks a lot...I think I'm definately gonna go with WBS for my next grow ...What brand/type seed do you use? When you say inoculated with liquid culture you just mean with a spore syringe, right? (Still a noob...building my vocab every day )

I use Morning Song wbs. Less than $6 for a 25lb. bag at Wal-mart (US). Works great. Notta lotta sunflower seeds. LC is not the same as spore syringes. Check this out... HERE Just a little info on LC's (Liquid Cultures)

No. A liquid Culture is a nutritious suspension of chains of living mycelium. It is super easy to do and since the myc is all happy and germinated already, the inoculated substrate colonizes faster.

Bingo. And as Psychonaught said, it is SUPER easy. I really dont know why it isnt a compulsory part of any persons technique. Get a few different types going and then just stick em in the fridge until you are ready to use them.
