DON"T BUY A KIT< DON"T BUY A KIT< DON"T BUY A KIT your better off giving the money to charity, there is nothing in a kit you can't buy your self, for MUCH MUCH CHEAPER. DON"T BUY A KIT spend your money on some nice sushi instead but do not buy a kit,,,,,,kits are sooo stupid. They are for the ignorant, that want to grow as easy as possible, but kids don't mkae it easy, they just make you mad when your all like "shit, i just wasted a bunch of money on a kit"

MeltingPenguin didn't give much advice about what to do about it, but he/she is right. There really isn't much needed to get started, unless you live in a rural area and don't have a way to get to the stores. 1) My advice would be to get your wide mouth 1/2 pint jars--$5 2) Buy the appropriate substrate you want. Probably go w/ Brown Rice Flour or Dark Rye Flour WITHOUT preservatives and vermiculite. Go to a Health food store for the flour and a garden center for the vermiculite. If you have a pressure cooker, go w/ a whole grain, I prefer finch food, available at wal-mart. (There are a bunch of ways to prepare the substrate, just look here at the grow/find area on this site, good place to start is the magic mushroom growers guide or mmgg IMO)--$10 3) Make your jars. when the jars are nearing full colonization..... 4) go buy a rubbermaid type container w/ lid. $5-$10 5) buy some perlite available at garden centers. $5 6) put the perlite about 1" thick on the bottom and add about 1/4"-1/2" of water. 7) birth cakes or case the cakes in the rubbermaid This is a fairly effective method. Running you a grand total of $30 plus the cost of a spore syringe. Plus you can modify this later to be a more self sustaining terrarium if you choose by adding a fish tank bubbler and timer to air it out on its own. Hope that all made sense
