CAUTION! Incorrect PC use cause of blood loss * 1
    #5157996 - 01/09/06 11:32 AM (18 years, 2 months ago)

I was making come LC. sterilized the 1/2pt jar in the PC for about 23 mins. Then I think to my self..."Self, Why not remove the regulator." (RATIONAL: Release pressurized steam so the lid could be opened and the cooling can begin.) I have sterilized many jars and never once did I not let the PC sit for hours without fucking with it.

In my heart I knew this was wrong and even thought....I bet the jar will crack.

But due to a serious case of the "Fuckits" (Knowing something could go bad but rolling the dice and saying "Fuck It", anyhow.

So I executed my feeble plan. Released the steam, took off the lid, an hour later I went to check the jar and it looked very intact yet empty with a lonely marble rolling around.

This was so weird...The jar was void of liquid, I started thinking that all the water and Karo evaporated, seemed ridiculous...but it was either that or magic as far as I was concerned. So the fuckits had their way with me again...And off to the sink I go to remove the lid and start over.

CRACK! the bottom of the jar breaks off in my hand slicing my flesh deeply. There was blood everywhere...Through the pain and the expletives I notice the little iridescent marble rolling across the floor, I thought if it could speak it might be laughing at me saying "HAHAHA I'm Freeeeeeeeee!"

I tended to the deep slices in my hand and pondered a trip to see about some stitches...But alas...I cant keep those "fuckits" away.

After much coagulation and bandaging I grabbed a 1pt jar and started over....this time the right way.

Be careful, I just learned a good lesson paid for in blood.

LOL

Most of my PC stories involve not using enough water and finding spawn bags stuck to the sides of the PC and substrate everywhere. Sorry about your hand dude.

So it was cracked before you twisted it, but you didn't see it because it was on the bottom, right?

Yea, releasing the pressure like that will result in a good chunk of the LC boiling away too
Just let it cool.
I did the same thing, but only from 10psi, and it boiled off atleast a half cup of my lc

Sometimes, while boiling food in a pot on the stove, I like to press the lid down really hard and let pressure build up, then take the lid off really quick. Sometimes I burn myself when I do this. Why do I do it? Who fucking knows man...... It's just one of them things I do. I guess the same reason people pick scabs even when they know it's not a good thing to do.... heh.... But don't do what I do, it can cause a bad mess and bad burns.

Never pop the regulator off the PC with pressure. The reason you lost all the water in the jar is because the water was at 250F. The only way water can stay liquid at that temperature is to be under pressure of 15 psi. When you released the pressure, you also released all the water in your jar into vapor. People also do this all the time when they PC brf jars, then complain their substrate is too dry.

Always let the PC cool on its own without disturbing it until ten minutes or so after the last of the pressure has naturally subsided.

coagulating almost sounds fun... I've had a couple run ins with a PC, I was quite
lucky both times, a few small burns, one hole in the ceiling and a green ceiling
on another instance, there's usualy a reason people give warnings about rapid
cooling on metals as well as depressurizing too quickly.

LOL.
I hope you heal well. Vitamin E works great to speed up healing.
I did something similar. I was steaming some jars in a large pot when someone showed up and I forgot about them. About an hour passed when I remembered them and ran into the house. There was smoke everywhere! I turned off the stove and let it cool. The pot was WELDED to the burner and all the jars were broken and black. The towel on the bottom was charcoal!! I had to pry the pot off the burner and discovered the stove enamel was cracked. Needless to say my wife was not impressed!!
I suffer from CRS. They say the memory is the first thing to go.......
