can i grind vermiculite?

i know that the coarser type is not very good, but its all i could find, so can i grind it in the coffee grinder for a while to make it more fine? or would this cause problems?

sounds like it should work. you don't want HUGE chunks...you want something that will keep the BRF pretty evenly distibuted.

The course stuff holds less water and is not as effect imo as a ramsey seal - i always muli the stuff into fine particles

you DONT want fine dust and you DONT want coarse "clumps".  somewhere in the middle.  be careful with the dust, it contains small amounts of asbestos. not enough to harm you, but too much of anything and you know what happens....

What is it with everyone and asbestos? Only like once was it ever found in vermiculite, and was linked back to a certain mine. Vermiculite is fine, big or small. How smaller pieces would suddenly create asbestos I really can't figure out.
