Mineral Blocks and Cow Poo
    #5143333 - 01/05/06 02:12 PM (18 years, 1 month ago)

I'm from the central U.S., and grass here doesn't contain all of the nutrients needed for supporting cattle's needs. Most farmers supplement the cattle's diet with brown mineral blocks and salt licks. A friend and fellow grower told me that these mineral blocks contain additives that hinder the growth of mycellium on cow's poo that have been given access to these blocks. Areas of the southeast U.S. have grass with plenty of minerals occuring naturally, so these blocks are seldom used. I tried a search, and there's not really any info on this. If anyone has any experience with this, or would care to speculate, it would be appreciated.
