Smallest/largest thing you've ever colonized?
    #5159171 - 01/09/06 05:13 PM (19 years, 11 days ago)

I was wondering today if just for fun I could colonize and successfully grow mushrooms from a shot glass...anyone ever tried it? What is the largest thing you have ever colonized or seen colonized? Anyone ever colonized like a 3 gallon bucket or something and gotten shrooms the size of the mushroom cloud from an atomic bomb? For that matter, is there a limit to the size the mushrooms can grow?

I've grown a couple of fruits off of a forgotten petri/agar dish. Hard to get much smaller...

Just cover the top with tin-foil.

In the center of the foil, leave a dime size hole for light & FAE to get in.

One will find it's way there.

If more than one does, abort the others.

I frequently grow Oyster mushrooms in 66 quart Sterilite containers. With straw and manure this produces very large mushroom clusters.

4 ft X 8 ft outdoor grow box.
Substrate was about 250 lbs of compost.
Spawned with 10 large spawn bags of WBS (about 80 lbs of spawn).
