I don't seem to be very good at this.

I've got some cakes sittin' away in a cheap terrarium here. They've been in for about a week, and mycellium has started to grow on the outside of the cake, very (what's the opposite of dense?)... it sticks to the jar lid underneath, or just grows out into the air generally. I've had this problem before, but instead of bothering to correct it, I just extracted the psilocybin from the cakes and tossed 'em. I suspect the problem is either heat, humidity or air-exchange issues, either too much or too little. Air-exchange doesn't seem likely, but is still a possibility. Or perhaps I just haven't given them enough time..

yeah, did you birth them before they were done colonizing? that's just not healthy... if you follow the PF tek, you shoudn't have any problem.

Nono, that' perfectly healthy. That's just the cakes bulking up and getting ready to pin. Mine did that.. then I got tons of pins :)

No, I let them full colonize the cake, and now they're continue to grow fluffy mycellium on top of the cake.. they're jammed in the colonization phase or something :P

no no mah friend. check it out. once your cake is fully colonized, you birth the cake into the terrarium. then, you will see some fully or whispy white mycelium growth. that does NOT mean they're stuck in a stage. thas a good sign that your mycelial growth is aggressive, and your cake will start pinnin within a week probably. as long as you're keepin the humidity up, temp around right, and fanning at least once a day. jus take care of em, follow pf tek, and you should have no problem. the worst thing you can do with shrooms is be unpatient.
peace,
raj

Just be patient my friend and soon you should see small knots forming that will turn into pins afterwards.

Good Luck, Hollywood

I've read somewhere, that if micelium continues to grow, but no pinning, it can be because of too HIGH humidity of air. It can happan in small perlit-humidified terrariums.

But it's really too early to be inpatient...
