perlite substrate

I just made a substrate using brown rice flour, water, and insead of verm (which i cannot seem to obtain)i used pearlite. Will it work? and how long should i wait before sterilizing the jars? Should the caps be left on?

I'm pretty sure the short answer is no. Someone will surely give the long answer soon enough.
