Are there "invisible" contaminations?
    #5150365 - 01/07/06 11:23 AM (18 years, 1 month ago)

So is it generally understood that if the cake and mushrooms look fine then they are not contaminated...as in is it possible to eat a mushroom that itself and its cake have NO signs of contam but somehow it has the ebola virus in it or something? (ok not the ebola virus but something bad?)

I will say that if the mushrooms look healthy enough that there shouldnt be any contams at all. Ofcourse this is bad if your that new to growing and thought a infested mushy looked healthy. But ime of reading posts, if you suspect anything, toss it. If you don't, go for it.

the only "invisible" contam I can think of is bacterial and everytime I get that, my substrate never colonizes fully to even produce mushies. And if they do, I've seen some messed up pictures of noticably bad mushies. Ultimately the decisions' yours. Be wary and careful.

Other than that, get familiar with pics of cobweb mold. It looks almost exactly like mycelium except grayer.
