How to deal with frustrations, feelings of "I'm tired of waiting!"?
    #5144970 - 01/05/06 09:48 PM (18 years, 26 days ago)

At numerous points in my own life, I've been at a junction where I was working towards some ultimate goal that I would very much like to acheive. This in my case pertains to my work as a student. However it has been common and unavoidable that I realize that between now and my goals there is a lot of waiting... a lot of timesink to be dealt with that just cannot be avoided.

To my mind, it's not easy to know that for the time being I will be mired my current condition until I have the necessary education to move on. I always arrive at a point where I'm pissed off, frustrated, and tired of being relegated to waiting for a distant satisfaction. I have no desire to end the waiting with anything drastic, but at times I wonder how I can deal with the interim.

My dreams are lofty, and I'd hate myself if I didn't pursue them, but sadly the present is just lost in my pursuit of them.

I could sit here, working on a bachelor's degree, remaining an unemployed student working optimistically towards the potential of a better future... or I could act out of spontaneity... Join the air force right now... go where they send me, enjoy the life that results from knowing that I'll get a paycheck, but not knowing where I'll wind up being in the process.

I don't know, I really don't.

What would you do in the air farce if you joined?

Pilot.

My plan A (which I'm working on a bachelor's degree for) is to be an officer and a fighter pilot.

My plan B is to fly "heavies" (tanker/freighter/transport). It's not ideal, becuase it's a lot of sitting on your ass and flying in a straight line. But I do get flight hours logged, and it gives you a damn good addition to a resume for commercial piloting positions.

Plan C is do whatever the fuck job I'm assigned to, and enjoy the fact that I have a steady paycheck, but that I don't have to decide what the hell my next job is.

In the options that do not entail flying a fighter craft, I've contemplated setting money aside, with which I might some day get into aircraft racing on an amateur level.

You will never forgive yourself if you don't become a pilot dude. Have you flown before? There's a fucking incredible world that pilots can touch that most people can't.

Yeah, after more thought I'd say C is definitely out. I say, focus on A or B. Personally, I say time flies when you're wasting your life. It's good to be impatient about the future because it means you may actually have the drive to have one.

If you don't like getting pushed around by people who enjoy their rank privilege then don't enlist, wait till you get your bachelor's degree.

The Civil Air Patrol:

could be an option if you're wanting to fill up those empty hours of waiting.

Meditate, clearing your mind of all of these things, and the answers will be waiting for you!! If you can't find it, than your mind isn't clear. When your mind is truly clear and clean the answers will be very apparent. :sunny:

Money haha. I think the reason the world is so fucked up is because everyone misinterprets their 'intuition' and, of course, any sane person 'realizes' the need to merge with the 'real World.' And this is precisely why the world is so fucked, everyone thought they would derive meaning and purpose from their money, but instead all they do is exude the emptiness and contempt that money can confer. You should do what makes you happy, and more importantly you shouldn't try and make an impact here on Earth unless its a good one. Because a lot of people make impacts, they are just shitty "carcinogenic," if you will, impacts. In favor of all this progression, yet not many people stop and consider where exactly it is we're going?

Cancer, I'm telling you. It's cancer and we're killing the body which gives us life.

I say stay in college and write some shit, although I do have to admit the allure of aviation...

On a side note I'm quite confused as to the purpose of your, uhh, cartoon animal porn?

Hehe.. I uploaded that for use in an OTD thread a month or so ago. It's "furry porn".

I hadn't heard of the CAP. I'll have to look into that, as soon as I can manage to afford the instruction to get an FAA license (which can get pretty expensive).

However... I have no clue what this means: "You must have a Class III or higher medical certificate..."

I found this on class 3 medical requirement:

Oh wait a minute, that's Australia

I found it:
http://www.health-alliance.com/contentarchive/July01/work.html

It's part of the FAA requirements for piloting, which means I'll have it anyways, and class 3 appears to be the lowest level.

I found out I have 3 different CAP locations within 12 miles of me, although the closest one is on mondays at 9... which conflicts with my chemistry lab.

I don't have a pilot's license yet, however I am still 18, and could still join the cadet level of the CAP. That could be fun, and it would no doubt look good on my record, and even on a resum? for a civilian job.

Don't go into the military without a degree, that's my advice. Being a grunt on the bottom of the totem pole is no fun. While the Air Force is better than any other branch, you're still enlisted if you go in without a degree.

Being a fighter pilot is not a realistic goal though. Fighter pilot requirements and training are just a notch below that of astronauts. Trust me, I've looked into it extensively. Letting go of a childhood dream of being a fighter pilot sucks, but there are TONS of opportunities in the commercial aviation world. Who cares if you fly a big bus in the sky? Commercial pilots work like 7 days on, 7 days off. I'll take 60K a year to work 26 weeks a year.

So, get the degree first. Then do whatever. If you think you can make it as fighter pilot, go for it, but just realize you're basically applying yourself to become an astronaut, academically and physically. If you ever get the chance to meet a real fighter pilot, you'll realize that these people are seriously sharp cookies--in all aspects, almost alien like to you and I. Fighter pilot candidates also wash out by the dozens. But, aviation is a pretty nice career field to "wash out" to regardless.

I've met a couple of fighter pilots, and yes... they're pretty impressive people to meet. But I'm hardly your average american. I have a "gifted" intellect and it is a dream I'm rather bent on pursuing. If anything will disqualify me it would be something medical, in which case I might even be willing to be a navigator (navigators have to meet far less stringent requirements, such as the allowment of corrected vision). Although I'm not sure of whether I'd prefer to still be a pilot, and fly a heavy... or if I would prefer to be a navigator, and get to ride in something such as the F-15. Flying bombers might be fun, too.

My highest level pipe-dream would be flying the F-22, or even better, the F-35. But either of those are a lofty goal, and I don't even know if/when the F-35 will be put into regular use.

Well talking about this has helped make me more confident. And Thanks to everyone I've gotten some good feedback, and found out about the C.A.P.

Thanks everybody, especially Booby, you were very helpful.

realy you have to be in perfect health, and there is hight requirements and all kinds of other stuff.

As far as waiting and fealing like your waiting I am just about done with my degree. I have been burnt out for the last couple years and now that I am finaly almost done finaly ready to get the hell out of this place. I am faced with having to find a job move away from what has been home for a few years and go some place new were I know no one and dont have a set future. Its kinda scarey and daunting...
