What brain chemical causes bad emotions?
    #5142217 - 01/05/06 05:57 AM (18 years, 1 month ago)

Iam not talking about an overall period of depression which I realise is usually caused by low levels of serotonin. What I mean is the negative emotions you experience when you suddenly think of something negative. Is it caused by a sudden release of a negative feel brain chemical or is it caused by a sudden inhibition of a feel good chemical i.e serotonin?

i have been expiriencing the same thing. i describe it as an emotional flashback if i think hard enough about something terribly sad i become horribly depressed, almost physically sick and get suicidal thoughts :frown: it is not fun, i dont think its a chemical thing i think its just natures way of punishing us......

My statistical assumption is that chemical tapering should begin when the rate of visiting ODD exceeds the rate of visiting Pub, or any other Shroomery forum.

I don't think it's quite that simple. As far as I know, thoughts cannot be narrowed down (or at least haven't yet been narrowed down) to one or two neurochemicals. They arise as a product of consciousness. (Correct me if i'm wrong here). However thoughts and neurotransmitters are associated, for instance, higher levels of serotonin generally correspond to more positive thoughts.

If you're having negative thoughts and they bother you, you ought to consider psychotherapy.
